This article “Google docs give Advantage against Microsoft and Apple” points out some of the advantages that Google has over the other applications. It shows how Microsoft has its pros and cons. How Microsoft has been the giant in the market for a long time and all other competitors have had a hard time competing with them. Then it describes the advantages of Google and how it can be accessed and used for collaboration. Lastly, the article talks about Apple and their usability and consumer devices. I believe that this article will help the group since it shows the pros and cons for the Apple and Google docs products. Apple and Google Docs are related to each other within this article by their uses and how they aid in the office.

This website is a PDF paper from the University of Southern Queensland, Australia. They in a way wrote their own “white paper” about what should or could be used to collaborate on research papers. I think that this technical paper is a very good source. It explains some of the few current products that can be used collaboratively. It goes in depth to explain the pros and cons of the ways which Google docs could further help or hinder the collaboration. It shows how the servers work, the editing, and the sharing work. I think that this paper will help to show how apple employees can use this product for work and working at home without file transfers. It also tells how Google can be used with offline too. It will help give the group insight to show what Google docs advantages and disadvantages so that employees will be able to use the product to the fullest.

This website is a Google docs blog that discusses everything to do with Google docs. I have gone through a great deal of the website and think that it will be very beneficial to the group for our white paper. It discusses all of the ins and outs of what Google docs can do. I have found that it is pretty much like office only can be used anywhere that you go and store the information for your use too. This website will show all of the advantages or uses that Apple could gain from using Google Docs within their company and having the employees use it too. For examples it shows how you can import and export data to the various Google Docs applications. This would be useful to any company that uses Google Docs and supports it.

This link shows that Apple Inc. has several different corporate locations all over the world. One of the problems with having so many locations is that it is hard to collaborate on projects from opposite sides of the ocean. As a result most companies resort to massive email chains where several people make changes which is very time consuming because the document needs to be sent to each person in order. Google Docs would be a very good service for Apple because then they could all view and edit the project in one location and they can see all previous revisions in on location. With this service Apple would be able to reduce the amount of time spent on projects and it would allow more people to input any ideas or suggestions and help produce a better final document.

This link shows that Google has a Google Docs application for the Iphone. This is another huge plus for Google Docs because this will allow all of Apples Iphone using employees to review and edit projects that they are working on when they are out of the office. This is very important because if someone is out of town on business and a project needs either approval or a final review the company no longer needs to wait until that person has access to a computer, they can get an instant update with the use of this service. This again will reduce the amount of time many projects take and will also give many people a more mobile work place allowing them to leave work for emergencies or business.

This link is the opening link to Google Docs. This page shows several of the advantages of Google Docs that would greatly benefit Apple Inc. The most important point is that it’s a free service. This means that no matter if Apple currently has a similar application this is already a better choice because they do not need to pay anything to maintain or upgrade the service. Even though Apple is a large computer company and they could possible develop a similar program for cheap they would need to continually pay for hardware, the maintenance on the hardware, software upgrades, software maintenance, and help staff. All of those costs add up over time and become a financial burden so instead they could avoid the costs and headaches by outsourcing to a free program.

Project 3, 3 Sources

Research project 3 – 3 sources
Source # 1: http://www.sci.usq.edu.au/staff/dekeyser/googledocs.pdf
This source is a research paper detailing the technical aspects of using Google Docs to write a research paper. Oddly enough, this is a similar concept to what we as a group are trying to with Apple. I found this source very intriguing because it shows the technical side of what Google Docs is capable of doing while also identifying possible weaknesses. The most important feature that I found from this source is the ability to have flexibility to save and collaborate information in a variety of formats including: PDF, HTML, and finally Microsoft Word. This is extremely helpful for myself because I know that when a group need to be able to adjust and have wiggle room for flexibility within the project. Finally, one item that is highlighted within this source is the fact that vendor’s issues between software groups could present a problem at some point down the road.

Source # 2: http://developer.apple.com/gettingstarted/

This source is obviously very accurate and professional, bit also extremely helpful. I chose this source because a company that is as technically successful and innovative like Apple has their own software and traditionally doesn’t stray from that software. This source does a great job of identifying what specific applications that Apple has, and then includes a link on how to use those applications. This is somewhat similar to what we did in the instructions project and it goes into even more detail about each technology individually. One thing that I noticed while I was reading this article is that this source caters to several different audiences. For example, the ADC website section caters to the developers and programmers who base their profession around the computer software illustrated here and the “getting Started” section caters to more of a common user who may lack experience and need instructions to help themselves.

Source #3: http://www.pcworld.com/businesscenter/blogs/larkin_on_the_web/147498/wor...

This source details a new feature within the Google Docs application, the new PDF upload. I found this to be interesting for my group and our topic company Apple because I felt this explains and illustrates how technology can transform the way documents can be created and edited. This transformation of how documents can be uploaded within Google Docs runs parallel with Apple’s ever-growing technology stream. I found this article to be intriguing because I haven’t had to use Google Docs previously, and while reading it helped me gain an understand of what can and can’t be done within uploading a PDF in Google Docs. Finally, I feel that article illustrates through its last sentence, that the growth of PDF’s within businesses isn’t slowing down anytime soon, while changes within the system could elevate the software from nice to terrific.
