Week 6 log

Our group decided to communicate on AIM or email's as main sources for contact, since there are people all over America right now. We have planned a meeting for tomorrow at 2:30 online to discuss in more detail what needs to still be done. A Google Docs spreadsheet was made this week to allow everyone to sign up for certain parts of the assignment. This has been helpful to our group already. Our group will post their individual parts to Google Docs to allow others to easily view and possibly modify parts of the paper.

Plans until Monday:
- Finish Assigning Roles and Sections

White Paper Reading Response

Writing a white paper is not just throwing a bunch of information down on a piece of paper. It actually is more in depth than you may think. The first step to writing the paper is to know who your audience is. Once you know this, you will know what tone to use while writing and also how detailed you must be. Next you pick an approach, either write based on personal interest or based on the readers interests. This will make it sound good to them if you do this part correctly. Then you write about the subject but focus only on it, not it's history.

Project 3 Log

I have heard from two of my group memebers, and it sounds like they have the same idea's that I have. As far as dividing up the labor, we are waiting to find the best way for communication. Once that decision has been made, then we can start talking about who's doing what.

Current Action Items:
- Finish Deciding Contact Mediums
- Debate on Project Type (Google Docs or Other)
- Debate on Seperate Google Accounts
- Division of Labor
- Check Project Understanding

Instructions REVISION

I have revised my original instructions by doing the following:
I spiced up my cover to the instructions by adding eBay's logo, some lines to add a design, and also changing the font colors to match the logo.
I briefly explained what Turbo Lister is and how it can help you.
I capitalized titles to help them stand out (Start Menu, Programs...)
I have referenced my figures within my text.
I have reworded some steps to clarify the procedure.
I have modified the "tips" I included to be the same size font, and also not italicized.

Cover letter and Resume

Here are my two documents...

t letter

I wrote my letter to Sargent & Lundy in Chicago. They are seeking a Electrical Engineer for a entry level position in nuclear plants.

Reading response 3

The information from the online readings was very helpful and full of advice. I’ve heard of the information presented before, but never really thought about it. I understand that companies care about themselves when reading through the resumes. I also know they look for key words within your resume that will benefit their company, and you never know exactly what they are looking for. Many companies have piles and piles of resumes, so your resume much be extraordinary to be considered. It’s hard for HR to decide who they want if they actually studied each resume.

Instructions Trial Run

For the instructions test I was to do, I ended up askin gmy cousing if he could test them out. He can use the computer for basic procedures, and never has used eBay to sell anything. I ended up deciding to modify my proposal a little bit in order to make the whole process easier (because I don't use eBay online to create auctions, I use a program eBay offers that is called Turbo Lister). So using this software makes the whole eBay process easier to complete. I forgot to mention where to download the software on the website, which was my first problem.

Ch 24 & 25

After reading chapter 24 and 25 I was more clear on "good" instructions. As Mr. Weber has instructed, we were to read instructions from around the home. I chose to read my pizza cooker, the Presto Pizza Pizzaz. Haha, anyway, they had fairly good instructions. There was a few diagrams with arrows explaining what each part was and how to use them. The main instructions referenced the drawing and explained how to assemble the machine. The cooking times for the pizza's (homemade, frozen, from the box) were all neatly organized within a table or chart.

Proposal

I propose to create instructions on how to create a eBay account and create an auction on eBay with helpful design tips. It will cover the basic auction creation as well as more advance features eBay has to offer. Troubleshooting will cover how to modify incorrect parameters within the auction. All the images I plan to use will be screen shots as I walk you along the process to creating a successful auction page that will not only sell, but also attract buyers.
