My Project Log

When we first got the assignment, my group all emailed each other through Purdue Webmail and decided that the best way for our group to reach each other was through email or the wiki. After we discovered that the wiki could be seen by the whole class, we decided that email was our best option. We all exchanged our contact information and got ready to start the assignment. Mid-week, one of my group members started a Group 1 Document Planning Page on Google Docs. This allowed each member to access our planning page and give input.

Guide to White Paper: Reading Response

White papers are a low-cost way for companies to promote their products and gain an advantage on their competition. They provide unbiased information to any individual within the company. A white paper developed for a professional business should always educate prospects before they talk to a salesperson, generate new leads, reach a wide audience, and most importantly…educate employees. With all that being said, writing a white paper may seem intimidating and challenging, but there a few key points to remember. Always consider your readers when writing.

My Resume & Cover Letter

I am applying for a job I found on CareerBuilder.com for J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. as an assistant branch manager. I have attached my resume and cover letter and would love some help in revising them. Thank you for your time! Smiling

My Reading Response

After reading the instructor’s blog and checking out the different Purdue OWL websites, I believe I am confident in writing a cover letter. I now understand the importance of a cover letter and am determined to make mine stand out to employers. An interesting fact that stood out to me was the fact that I shouldn’t repeat information that can be found in my resume. I now know that I should flesh out aspects of my professional experience that aren’t easy to convey. The problem will be discovering something unique and relevant about me and the job to elaborate on.

My T-Letter

I found an ad through Career Builder for a position as an Assistant Branch Manager - Trainee. I chose to pursue this position because I am currently doing in internship with JP Morgan Chase and I was curious to see what else they offered for when I graduate. This position is located in Cleveland, Ohio where I was born and would be something I am interested in exploring. I have attached my T-Letter!

Reading Response 3

After reading the assigned chapter and articles, I have become really inspired to make my resume stand out. I hope all of you are motivated as well! I can’t believe I only have approximately 30 seconds to make an impression, if that!

Instructions Project Usability Test

I conducted the usability test with the help of my mom as a volunteer. She was very excited to learn how to change a flat tire because the task to her seemed impossible. She was impressed that I took the time to learn how to successfully complete this chore and was eager to learn too. She doesn’t know much about cars but knows how helpful this skill will be. After observing her with my instructions and changing her own tire, I think my testing went pretty well. My mom was able to successfully change her tire with my instructions… I was impressed!

Reading Response to Chapter 24 and 25

After reading chapters 24 and 25, I feel that I am better prepared for all my future projects in my classes and in the real world. For example, The Thomson Handbook states, "Writers are also now called upon to communicate with wider audiences in contexts beyond the walls of the classroom." This quote shared with me all the new technology and ways you can spruce up your projects.

Instruction Project Proposal

Last week I was driving down the interstate on my way to work early in the morning. I was already running late. My alarm clock didn’t go off and I was over an hour late. I asked myself “what more could go wrong?” when all the sudden my car jerked hard to the right and I was forced to pull over on the shoulder. It turns out my fears had come true, I had a flat tire. Thousands of people day after day are late to work, an appointment, etc. because they don’t know how to change their flat tire.

Chapter 12 Reading Response

After reading Chapter 12 in The Thompson Handbook, I believe I have a good understanding on what to expect in this course. This chapter got me excited because I realized I will be learning how to improve my writing that will actually help me in the future. In many of my previous courses I seemed to ask myself, “When will I ever use this after the class ends?” I now feel very confident to say that it will not be a problem at all for this course. I am thrilled to learn how to improve my business letters, resumes, memos, case analysis, white papers, and reports.
