Project Log Week 7: Rough, Editing, and Final Drafts

We are submitting our final drafts this week. This week, I have compiled the rough draft together using everyone's data and submitted it. I have coordinated with the group how we should go about editing. We are each editing the document and posting the revision to our Google Groups site as ...(rev#). This way, we know that everyone has edited it by ensuring that our final is rev4. I have made my revisions and posted them and am now waiting for others to do the same as we complete our project.

Group 3 White Paper Rough Draft

This is our rought draft white paper on Google Docs.

Project Log Week 6: Organizing Rough Drafts

As of now, the team is researching and preparing to put together a rough draft of our white paper on Google Docs. We have decided to break up the paper into four main categories, each of us taking a part to complete. The sources were turned in by everyone this week and we are ready to move forward with getting a rough draft put together. We have all decided to meet online sometime this weekend for more discussion about organization of the paper and are prepared to have our individual parts done by Sunday night.

Week 5 Project Update: Establishing Contact

This week, contact was not yet established. I sent out an email to the group late Friday night and did not have a chance to see if anyone had replied. A Google Docs account was created for me but was not quite sure how to share with the other group members. Not much was done this week with the project simply because contact had yet to be made. Plans for next week include dividing the project up into four parts where each group member gets one aspect of the project. Once this is done, researching can begin.

Cover letter and resume

Here is my resume and cover letter. Please dont be afraid to critique it. Thanks!

Reading Response July 2

These reading on cover letters were great. They actually spelled out almost word for word what the employer is looking for in a cover letter. These readings will be a great help when it comes to actually writing our own cover letters and will allow us to follow a set guideline, saving us time and energy. I researched two examples online for some reference. The first one I came to was on jobserch.about.com. This was a horrible example using short and choppy sentences to convey messages.

Reading Response June 27

It’s amazing how many people can say so many different things about resumes. Here we are learning how to write cover letters and then reading the article “A Glimpse and a Hook” which tells us to never write a cover letter. I would completely agree with this statement. People don’t read cover letters!! If by chance your resume makes it past the first glance, the cover letter might, just might be read. And if it does decide to get read, it won’t be read until last. Why?

Project 1 Usability Test

The testing for the Xenetech Rotary Engraver actually went very well. I have the manual to a guy named Gary Short who is a supervisor in the panel area at Caterpillar. He works right next to the machine every day but did not have a clue how to operate it. When I handed him the manual, he briefly skimmed through it to get an idea of what he needed to read. As he went through it, I could tell that he was having no difficulties until he got to one part of the manual.

Reading Response Ch. 24-25

First, I’d like to say that I don’t keep any manuals for anything in my apartment but I do have a service manual for my motorcycle. I opened it up to a page where it tells you how to retrieve the fuel and ignition system fault codes from the CPU. My motorcycle was having some problems and the warning light was coming on. Obtaining these codes will let me know what is wrong with the ignition or fuel system. There are two pictures on the page that show a diagram of where the connector is that you need to jump with a small wire.
