final week

Going into the final revision stages of the paper our group has met several times to discuss, update, and rework the rough draft of the white paper. We started off with an outline, then a skeleton typed out paper, then step by step developing it into a final draft of white paper. In the beginning of the process I believe that we all were a bit uncertain of how to go about the process and if we were doing it correctly. We made some mistakes and learned from them deepening our understanding of just exactly what the paper was going to develop into.

Week 2

This week our group decided on the topic for the White paper; Apple and Google Docs. The group has continued to research more detailed about these two topics and how the relate, how they can benifit use from each other. The group also has started the rough draft of the white paper to be due on Monday. From doing research about the two seperate entities using each other there is surprisingly more than I had onriginally thought there would be. I am looking forward to further advancement into the project.

White paper Reading response

From the assigned readings for the week and doing some extra research on my own, I have learned several more things about white papers than what I had already known. An overall definition of a white paper would be that it is a document geared for the professional audience that provides and states information on a specific topic. The white paper should have no bias and should appear to be purely informative.

Research week 5

Since Project three is just at the start there is not a whole lot to be discussed in the log. This week I have started researching about white papers, the genre, and the topic. The group has begun discussions about the project timeline and how the project is going to be pursued. Thus far there is not much to talk about but, I will edit this as more events happen and the group advances in the stages of the white paper.

Resume and Cover letter post

These are my cover letter and resume for step 2 of project 2 for peer review. I am "applying" for a job at HSSM which does MEP plans for new construction and renovations. Thanks for your comments Smiling

Cover letters: Good and Bad

For this reading response I found two cover letters to review and analyze about whether they were well written or not. After reading all of the OWL website tips for writing a cover letter I felt like I had a good idea about what was accepted. The first cover letter I found was: http://www.salisbury.edu/careerservices/Students/CoverLetters/GoodBadCov... This cover letter was not a good cover letter; the author did not relate anything from her resume to the job ad when she wrote this. The grammar was not exactly right. The cover letter also did not show her voice very well.

Abridged T-letter

I have attached my abridged T-letter for Step 1 of project 2. It is for an internship dealing with HVAC, Electrical, and Plumbing AutoCAD construction draw ups.

Reading Respone Week 3

I enjoyed these readings for the third week. Although we have already read about the topic in the Thomas Handbook these gave an even further insight into resumes. I really enjoyed the article A Glimpse and a Hook. I like how in depth the article was for the step by step process of interpreting and forming opinions from resumes. It was almost as if while you are reading it you can see them going through the process.

Project 1: Usability Test

For the instructions project I am writing a manual for an Electric Pole Loading program which is used in Excel. For the usability test I had a few other interns at work and my mom test the instruction manual. I thought that this would be a good choice since they are engineers who work with utilities; they are who my audience is. The interns had no problem navigating the program with the instructions and doing all the procedures correctly. They mostly pointed out design issues with the manual.

Chapter 24 and 25

In Chapter 24 and 25 I found it very useful and full of information. I liked all the examples about visuals in Chapter 24. How the visuals enhance and help get across the message or tone that you are trying to communicate. The book also made a good comment about how graphs can help get the information across in a short time. I thought this part was written out well and thoroughly going into most of the perspectives how graphs can help but at times can be twisting information. In chapter 25, how they explain the use and “play on pictures”.
