Our Annotated Bibliography is below. We also attached a PDF file of it as well because it is easier to read for peer review.
Burns, Ryan. "Independent Bookstores Persevre in the Digital Age." 2007. 8 July 2008 .
**The article explores the uniqueness of independent bookstores. It gave us an idea of how to promote and market independent bookstores. We will be referring to this article to show how their employees are more personable and knowledgeable and give ideas of how to draw on this.
Cowen, Tyler. "What are Independent Bookstores Really Good for?" Slate. 15 May 2006. George Mason University. 8 July 2008 <6. http://www.slate.com/id/2141725/>.
**Tyler Cowen is Professor of Economics at George Mason University and author of the forthcoming Discover Your Inner Economist: Use Incentives to Find Love, Survive Your Next Meeting, and Motivate Your Dentist. This article written by Tyler Cowen talks about the rise of the book "superstore".
"Declaration of Indibound." Indiebound. 2008. American Booksellers Association. 8 July 2008 .
**It's basically a group of individuals who made a website that allows people to locate independent bookstores, as well as stay in tuned to news and new books. It's like a big independent bookstore club. Here's an exerpt from their declaration that I thought was a strong piece:
"When in the course of human events it becomes necessary for individuals to denounce the corporate bands which threaten to homogenize our cities and our souls, we must celebrate the powers that make us unique and declare the causes which compel us to remain independent."
We think something very evident in the text is passion, and it's something that we could possibly put emphasis on in our proposal. These individuals have a lot of animosity towards the corporate world and tapping into that ideaology could be successful in a business situation.
Kornhaber, David. "Read Between the Lines - Book Superstores Threaten the American Literary Future." Harvard University. 8 July 2008 <5. http://www.digitas.harvard.edu/~perspy/old/issues/1999/feb/read.shtml>.
**This is an article we found from a current student at Harvard University. His name is David Kornhaber and he has written several pieces of literature that have been given several awards. We really like the way he wrote his thoughts on independent bookstores. He has some really good facts as well to go along with it.
O'Connell, Jim. 2008. 8 July 2008 .
**This website is a good example of a way independent businesses and their supporters come together to get the word out. It is one of the best ways to network to get the businesses name out as well as belonging to associations.
Rodriguez, Heather, and Dan Houston. "Procurement Matters: the Economic Impact of Local Suppliers." 2007. 8 July 2008
