I am from Memphis, Tennessee. As a PhD student of 16th Century British Literature, my career goals include increasing my knowledge of the field, publishing scholarly criticism, and ultimately joining a Graduate School faculty as a full-time Professor of English.
As a teacher, I am trying to diversify my experience by teaching as many different kinds of classes as possible. Teaching English 420Y: Business Writing is an exciting opportunity for me because it is not directly connected to my primary studies. As a result, I will gain knowledge and experience that will be very useful in my career. I also find it exciting that I can help all of you become experts in professional writing and composition. I know that you'll be satisfied with the results of your hard work this summer.
I also have a second career - I have been heavily involved in Theatre my entire life, and for the last five years I have been writing and composing Musical Theatre in Chicago. I am currently working on a Space Musical called Jim and Dave's Blood Meets Jupiter, a show which promises to be as weird as it sounds.

Hi, my name is Phil, and I'm from Westchester NY. I'm going to be a Junior in the fall and I just switched to Computer Graphics Technology from Civil Engineering. I'm not sure what what my career goals are, but I have a few different options I am thinking about. There are a few things I would like to get out of this course, one of which is learning how to write better and get my point across more clearly, especially when it comes time to interview for a job. As far as hobbies go, I spend most of my free time being a firefighter which adds to some excitement in my life and I also like the outdoors and various sports such as rock climbing.

I am from Mt. Vernon, IN. Currently I am senior majoring in General Health Science. I will graduate this December and I am in the process of being hired as a contract employee for the government. I plan to be there for a good length of time because i will be able to teach and travel, both of which are important goals to my career. I would like to learn how to better distinguish myself from others in the job market upon completion of this course. In my free time I enjoy any type of physical activity. I am also currently planning my wedding in the Caribbean, which will be sometime after my graduation. I am at a very exciting point in my life and I hope that this course can help me to expand my possibilities.

Hello! My name is Theresa Akre. I was born in Wisconsin, but for the past seven years I have lived in Granger, Indiana. I am a sophomore in Youth, Adult, and Family Services. After I graduate I hope to attend the John Paul the II institute in Washington D.C. and one day be a marriage and family counselor, Youth Minister, or part of a major pro-life organization. I would like this course to help me learn how to appropriately apply to graduate school, and future jobs. Also to help me write more professionally. One personal thing about myself is that I love crafts, especially scrap-booking.

Hi all, my name is Gisheilla Costa. I come from Indonesia. I've been living in United States for 2 years for study, and next fall I will be in my senior year of Food Science. My short term goal is to finish my bachelor degree in Food Science and then work in a food manufacturing company in United States. My long term goal is to have myown business in my hometown. Since I'm not native english speaker, and I think business writing is imperative, I want to have more knowledge and experience in writing some important-to-know letters or other paperworks that will help me in the future. My name is Nicole VanDeLeest and I'm from Evansville, Indiana but I am in Lafayette for the summer. I will be a senior in Animal Sciences this fall and I am in the process of applying to veterinary schools this summer and fall. With that said, I would like to become a veterinarian and work primarily with small animals. I am hoping that this class will help me compose better formal letters and emails that I will be able to use in my professional career. Besides the fact that I love animals, I also enjoy playing poker with my friends.

My career goals include working for a large marketing firm in Chicago. I love the high energy and fast pace of a large corporation. From this course I would like to improve my professional writing skills and learn how to improve my resume. I am an adventurous person and enjoy to spend my time with family and friends. I love the outdoors and spend my summers hiking, boating, and reading by the pool.

Hello everyone! My name is Michael Thrush and I am from Garrett, IN which is just north of Fort Wayne, IN. I am a senior in Building Construction Management with a specialization in mechanical construction. After I graduate next may I would like to be a project engineer in the industrial construction field. Right now I am interning for BMW Constructors in Chicago, IL. The actual job that I am working on is the BP oil refinery. In construction management, effective communication must take place for things to run smoothly on a job site. I am hoping that this class will teach me to more effectively communicate in a professional setting so I am able to be a bettter construction manager. Other than construction, I really enjoy sports. My top three sports are football, college basketball, and NASCAR. I also enjoy hanging out with friends and playing poker.

I don't know what I want to do for sure but something in finance. I want to learn how to be a better writer in business settings. My favorite sports to play are tennis and golf.

Hi, my name is Katie Herman and I am from Ringoes, New Jersey. I am currently a student in Management but I am in the process of CODO-ing to Selling and Sales Management with a minor in OLS. I will also be a junior this coming fall. I hope to get into pharmaceutical sales when I graduate and hope to be living in the NYC/Brooklyn area. I would like to get everything out of this course that I can , particularily strengthening my professional writing skills because I have not had that much experience with writing things such as memos. When I have spare time I really enjoy running and working out and going to the beach when I am home.

Hi! My name is Julia Wickert and I grew up and live in a small town in the north west part of Indiana called North Judson. I am a senior in the College of Ag. My major is Agronomic Business and Marketing, or Agronomy. I plan to graduate with my Bachelor's Degree in December of 2008 and then start working on my Master's Degree. After earning my Master's, I would like to work with the Extension Program and 4-H. From this course I want to learn how to write professional emails and reports. Those skills are both important for my future career. I love being outside. I like to play with my pets, go fishing, ride my 4-wheeler, camping, anything outside.

Hi! My name is Breann Chiero, and I am from a small town about an hour South of Chicago, IL. I am a junior in college; however, this year I am studying in Manhattan, NY to directly reach out to my passion. Thus, I am attending the Fashion Institute of Technology. I plan to graduate with the class of 2010 my senior year at Purdue. My major is Retail Management, and my minors are English and Art & Design. My ultimate career goal would be to work within the magazine industry of any of the following: Cosmopolitan, ELLE, Teen Vogue, or Glamour. I am hoping to excel greatly in this course by learning a lot so I can strengthen my background in writing. Something that stands me apart from most people is that I have a useful skill of keeping a continuous conversation. As a girl, I love to talk about pretty much anything. But when an awkward situation arises, I am able to diffuse the anxiety most surrounding people may feel by telling a joke or just being randomly funny.

Hi my name is Kelsey Dumoulin. I am from Carmel, Indiana, however I live in at my lake house in the summer which is in Angola, Indiana. My course of study is Youth, Adult and Family Services and I will be a senior this coming fall.
When I graduate, I hope to either work in a hospital's rape crisis area or with a non-profit organization. With this major, I am really looking forward to making a big impact on many people's lives.
In taking this course, I would like to become a better writer, by writing my thoughts down more clearly. I also hope to learn how to present myself well in my resume for future jobs.
I am an active member of Alpha Chi Omega, and am also involved in a few groups on campus. During the year, school is my number one priority but I love to stay active in my extracurricular activities as well as spend time with my sorority sisters.

My name is Ryan Lee Ross and I am from Fowler, IN. It is a small town located about twenty-five minutes northwest of Purdue campus. I will be a senior at Purdue in the fall, graduating in May. My major is Building Construction Management and I am earning a specialization in Mechanical Construction. My career goals include advancing my knowledge in the construction industry and to climb up the ranks in the company I choose. I plan to begin my career as a Project Manager and ultimately become a V.P. of Operations or beyond. From this course, I would like to take with me the confidence that comes with being able to present a professional document and the ability to convey myself the best way possible in all situations. I love to watch and play mostly all sports. Some of my favorite sports include: Golf, Basketball, Football, Baseball, and Tennis. About myself
My name is Melanee Dallas. I am from the city of Portage, which is in Northwest Indiana. However, I currently live in the theatre district of down town Chicago. I will be a senior this fall, in Actuarial Science and Statistics, minoring in Economics and Management. I ultimately hope to work as an Actuary, in a consulting firm. From this course, I wish to improve my overall communication skills. More specifically, I hope to prepare myself for my future career as a consultant. I hope to do this by learning to write in a more professional manner and to think more strategically about my presentations. In my free time, I love to dance and go out in the city. I particularly love where I live, because it is a prime location to see any musical I want.

I hail from the southeast side of Indianapolis. I will be graduating in August with a BS in Plant Biology and BS in Horticultural Production & Marketing. In the fall, I will be starting my Master's degree in Plant Pathology looking at fungicide resistance and plant disease diagnostics. I hope to refine my professional writing skills with this course and to complete it since this is the last undergraduate course I need for my undergraduate degrees. As far as a personal fact, my main hobbies include photograph and managing my personal plant collection.

After graduating from Purdue with a B.S. in Selling and Sales Management I plan to go to culinary school in New York.
