This wiki is for Weber's Group 5 to use during the Service Learning project. This wiki can be used for any purpose that the group wants. It will not be graded in any way.

Anyone in the group may edit this page. The "Revisions" link above (next to "Edit") should allow you to see changes to this page. You may also make comments and attach files (drafts, for example). Be careful not to delete this page. When you are ready to edit, erase this text and begin.

I thought I might try to contact everyone here first because this seems like the easiest and everyone can see it. I"m not sure what other people want to do, but if you want this to be the main form of communication that seems like it would work well. I'm sure most of us has AIM or Ichat, something along those lines, and I know we can do group chats with that, so that might be an option too if we need it. It doesn't matter to me how we communicate either. I am comfortable with using Wiki, Facebook, AIM, email, or some other form of communication. What ever is comfortable for evereyone else. My email is mjthrush@purdue.edu and my AIM is mjthrush. If need be, you can even call me at 260-553-0179. Just so you guys know my schedule, I work from 7 to 3:30 central time. Even though I am at work at those times, I do check this website periodically. I am completely free after work. I will make sure I am always signed in on AIM after work and will constantly check this website. I plan on making myself as available as possible.

Nick Neumann has dropped English 420Y, so your group will have only three members. This will have a few side effects:

  1. The three of you will do more individual work than the other groups.
  2. Your group will have a much easier time coordinating and planning since you have fewer people to deal with.
  3. Your group will only have do do two responses each week where everyone else has to do three. See the calendar pages for further explanation.

We've started to use the Wiki and it seems like it will work fairly well. AIM is also helpful.
I just tried to contact Nicole via e-mail and told her to check the Wiki so hopefully we can get the gantt chart started.

Thanks for posting your work schedule, that is very helpful, I wish I could do the same, but my schedule changes daily, and a lot of work I do is with an "on call" schedule, so I can be free one minute and busy the next. Michael, I'm not sure if you want to get started on the gantt chart or not, if you do that would be awesome. Today I am busy from 4pm-12am, and tomorrow I work from 9:30am-1:30pm, and 5pm-11pm.

I can either let you know what tasks you can put me on the schedule for, or you can just pick them for me. Either way is fine. If you don't want to make the schedule that's ok too, and i'll start working on it.

My work schedule changes everyday so it will be difficult for me to tell you guys when I would be readily available to work on the project. I am usually home by 6pm Eastern Time everyday and I can usually check my email account and this wiki page while at work if emergencies or something important comes up. Gantt Chart

Now that we are done with the Corporate Communication Project, how do you guys envision starting the Service Learning Project? Where do we begin?

I was looking over the calendar. And our Gantt chart is due tomorrow night. I still have not heard from Nicole who is also in our group, so I will try sending her an e mail and see where she is.

We need to have the gantt chart done by tomorrow night. (I'm on eastern time). I found this gantt chart online from http://www.vertex42.com/ExcelTemplates/excel-gantt-chart.html and we could probably use it as a sample or template and fill in the blanks where needed. I have attached the file to this post. Does anyone have any ideas of what they want to do in particular or what will work with their schedule? Maybe we can have one person in charge of making the chart, and everyone could submit what they want to do and when?

Saying that, does anyone want to be the one to make the gantt chart?

Gantt Chart

I will be completely honest with you two. I absolutely despise excel and everything that is associated with it. I could easily spend hours working on the gantt chart and it might not look that good. So if either of you are good at excel and wouldn't mind doing this part, I would be especially happy, but if neither of you are good with excel or have the time to do it I can try my hardest on it. I wouldn't mind doing the group activity reports. I could actually make the reports, email them to both of you and if you want any corrections made then we can do that. I also thought since there are 3 group reports due that each of us could just do one or one of us could just do all 3. I wouldn't mind doing the drafts either. Really I would be willing to do the group reports or drafts. Let me know what you guys think about the gantt chart and who would like to do that.

I am good at excel so If you don't mind, I can make the gantt chart. The only problem is, I can't start it till when I get off work at 3:30 (Central Time) tomorrow. If that is ok, I can finish it by 6:30 central time and then send it to your guys and you can look it over and let me know if any corrections need to be made. I can then send it in after that.

That would be awesome if you could make the gantt chart, I work all day tomorrow so probably wouldn't have much do it. I'm willing to do what ever for the project, so just assign me the tasks you want. I like Nicole's idea about us each doing one report, I think that would work out well.

When you do the gantt chart, if you could post it on here or e-mail it then we could look it over. That would probably work really well.

I just realized that there are actually 4 group reports due (one for week 5, 6, 7 & 8 ) so I'm not sure if you would just want to assign one of us to be incharge of that or what. I won't be able to check my email today until about 6:OO Eastern Time because I will be out driving and such all day for work so I will not be by a computer. I will check my email or this website as soon as I get home though!

I also realized that we should also assign research about the company/theatre we are making a brochure for. We should probably include this on the chart. I feel that whoever makes the drafts should do most of the research and everybody else can do a bit too. I don't have a problem with doing a lot of research and writing the drafts. Thanks for taking on the Gantt chart!

Activity report

I was looking on the calendar and it says that an activity report is due Sunday at the end of each week. Do we submit one activity report per group or do we each e-mail one to him?
If it's 1 per group, then maybe we could each do one and that could be put on the gantt chart as well.

Gantt Chart is Officially Posted

Just so everyone knows, the Gantt chart is officially posted. If you notice a mistake before midnight that you want corrected, contact me by phone (260-553-0179). I don't plan on being by the computer all night and that will be the best way of contacting me. I will also send you the excel version of the Gantt chart in case you need it.

Slight Problem with the Gantt chart

It's really not a big deal, but I was looking at the calendar for the class and the gantt chart you made. On Wednesday, our group document draft 1 is due, and on the top half of the gantt chart it says that I'll put together the group project and submit it, but then on the bottom half of the chart it says Nicole will. Either way works for me, but if you could clarify that, it would be helpful.

Gantt Chart Update

Attached is an update to the Gantt chart. It was pointed out to me that there were a few mistakes so I changed them. You can see the changes in the attachment. If you have any problems with who is in charge of what just let me know. We'll try to fix it as a group.

Group Document draft 1

So after looking at the gantt chart, I noticed that we have to start to figure out what should be a part of the group document draft 1. Based on my understanding of the project we're making a brochure for this theater group.

I was thinking that the brochure could be folded into 3rds, so there would be 6 panels in total (double sided). I also think we should include: Cover panel with theater group name and logo, synopsis of the group, overview of the show itself, major actors, pictures?, contact info., color scheme?

Does anyone else have any suggestions for the group document?

Group Document Draft 1

There are two documents that are needed from our group:

1. First, we need a BROCHURE. This brochure is sent out each fall with the Tantalus Theatre Group fundraiser letters. They also pass them out at shows and special events as well as give them to potential donors and audience members.

2. We will also need TWO FLYERS. "Dreadful Penny's Exquisite Horrors" is going to two Fringe Festivals in August. One show is in Minnesota and one in New York City. Each flyer should include a distinct show-related image, company logo, company name, and the pertinent information about the performances. They need two flyers because they have two sets of dates and locations. The general look can be the same but the flyers must have city specific information.

To sum up, we need a brochure and two flyers. I did not realize that we need a flyer so I did not put that into our Gantt chart. I will update that once I know who is doing what.

My suggestion is that we have Phil put together the brochure as planned and either Nicole or I could put together the flyer. I think only one person should put together the flyers even though there are two, because they will be the same other than the dates and location. What do you guys think? Nicole, do you want me to put together the flyers or do you want to put the flyers together?

On that page, you can also find a zip file with old photos, the company logo, and old flyers and brochures. Although example brochures and flyers are given, we need to completely redesign and update them. They are a great start though. You might also want to look at the Tantalus Theatre Group's Style Guide. This can also be found on the Service Learning Project Details page.

That would be great. If you need any help let me know. Like I said early, there are examples on the website in the zip file. Right now I am looking up information for Phil. If you need me to do the same or do something else, let me know. In the meantime I will update the Gantt chart and post it again on our wiki. It is ok to update the Gantt chart and other documents because they are not graded till the final draft is posted at the end. Until then, they are all rough drafts. So if you guys ever need to update anything, feel free. Just send the updated version to everyone or post it on the wiki.

Information to Include on Brochure

I like all of the things you listed to include on the brochure. You might want to include the mission statement as well. I don't know if you need to include an overview of the show itself. That is what the flyer is for. In the project details it says the brochure is a "general information brochure." Contact info would be good. If you look at the old brochures you might want to use similar color schemes. Those might be the colors that they always use. If that is the case, we wouldn't want to change that now.

Group Activity Report

Nicole, how is the group activity report coming along? Have you sent it to Mr. Plough? I think it is supposed to be sent as a 250 word professional email. I'm just curious and making sure it is getting done. If you could also copy Phil and I in that email that would be great. Thanks a lot for your help and hard work.

Here is the outside of the brochure... it is still in rough draft form, so don't pay attention to the stuff in neon green, that stuff wont be there when it's done. If you have any input feel free to post it here. (And it looks a little squished in the PDF because it's trying to fit it all on the screen

Brochure and Flyer Feedback

I think both the resume and brochure look great! We have to remember that they are only rough drafts so don't worry about them too much yet. Just do the best you can.

I only have one suggestion for the brochure. I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think it is squished together because it is trying to fit the document into one page on the PDF. I printed it out and it was still squished together. I could be wrong though. Maybe if you put it in landscape instead of portrait. Other than that I think it looks great. The only other thing I could think of to add was the story of Tantalus. I will have the donation prompt to you by tomorrow at 6:30. Sorry I could not get it to you sooner, but I got caught up in some things at home and could not get started.

As for the flyer, I was impressed. It was different than what you normally see but professional at the same time. I think different is good. That will set us apart from other groups. The only thing I thought could be improved was the length. I think we should try to fit it on one page. I think it would be appropriate to make the page bigger than 8.5" by 11". Maybe you could make it 11" by 17". Most flyers for plays, concerts, and shows are bigger than 8.5" by 11" anyway. What do you guys think?

Enlarging Flyer

Enlarging the flyer is a good idea, but would that be something we do or would it be something the company does? I can work on that for the next draft for sure though. Did you try printing it out or not, I know it's a lot of black ink so it doesn't bother me you don't.
