After taking the five minutes brochure Design trash test, I think this gave me a new look on our brochure. I think that viewing it establishes the fact that we need some more work but it also proves that we have a strong draft. After the five minutes were up and I added up the score and ended up with two minuses. Which is not three but I still think there are a few things we need to adjust. As for the appealing aspect of the brochure that scored a plus because the language we chose did strike a cord with me and would with the audience in my opinion.

After reading the ‘5 minute brochure design trash test’ I felt that our brochure does require very little amount of extra effort if we want to achieve an edge over the other brochures. After reading through all those categories I felt that we were over par in Readability, Language, Product or Service. Our design is very simple and adds a lot of humbleness to the whole brochure. I think what worked well for our brochure and flyer was that each team member and specific responsibility and they all made sure that they finish it in time.

Appeal to emotions (+). I think the cover of our brochure is appealing for our target market because it is intriguing and encourages them to “join” if they “dare.” The dark colors and the single line appeal to those who wish to be daring or those who like mysterious things. Be Professional (+/-). Overall, I think the design of the brochure is professional, but I feel there are a few inconsistencies. The image on the cover isn’t consistent with the other, better quality, photos on the inside. The front makes the show seem somewhat like a cartoon.

This article had a bunch of helpful information. I really liked the part about appealing to the reader’s emotions. I wouldn’t really think about doing that. Also, the part about not having a cheap brochure was very true. I think our brochure looks really good it’s really nice and professional. I think our brochure still looks overwhelming with the information on it. This article talked about using bullet points to draw the eyes attention to the information. I think this would be good for us to use in some of the sections that the information is so dense.

I think that the 5 Minute Brochure Design Trash Test was a way for me to honestly critique the brochure that my group created. I had a difficult time scoring our brochure in some areas, but this is what I came up with. Appeal to emotions (+), be professional (-), be personal (+), achieve readability (+), speak the language (+), lead with benefits (+), have a single message (-), focus on a product or service (+), make an action call (-). After adding up the numbers our brochure ended up with 3 (-)s, which means that a few changes need to be made.

I recently completed the "5 Minute Brochure Design Trash" test and felt that it was beneficial to our group. The test was useful in that it pointed out things that could be improved before we turn in our final draft. Below, I have listed the scores I felt our brochure deserved.

Appeal to Emotions: I believe that our brochure is lacking a little in that it does not evoke as much emotion as it could. The message that we send should, in some way, provide emotion to the reader. This emotion should make them want to read on and become involved in the production of TTG. There has to be an appeal to a certain group for the emotion to come through. Our brochure scores a (-) for the category of emotions.

The emotion the brochure could affect when someone first reads it is fear. The black background and red writing does not make someone happy, but could make the reader fearful. If intrigue or questioning of the matter were emotions I think the brochure would make the reader experience those emotions. (-) This brochure could appeal to someone’s desires if they wanted to view a play similar to the ones Tantalus Theatre Company portrays. In my opinion, I think the brochure is professionally made.

According to this tool for reviewing brochures, the brochure that our group created needs a little work if it is going to make a favorable impression on its audience. The tool offers nine different areas of the brochure to analyze. I will list the title of each area and then give my response to each section.

I feel that the 5 Minute Brochure Design Trash Test is very useful for this project and comes at the right time to help all of the groups out. After completing this test I noticed my group’s brochure could still use a little bit of adjustment and fine tuning before the final submission. For appealing to emotions I gave our brochure a (-). I struggled on this one, but came to the conclusion that since I could not decide, I would assume we are lacking in this area. Our brochure portrays the Tantalus Theatre Group through images and pictures, but really does not strike an emotional appeal.
