AUFMANN Work Blog #8

This week was full of revisions and finalizing our documents. My part of the project was designing the brochure and the second revision of it. While looking at the feedback from the client, I tried to follow their directions. They wanted the logo present and prominent. I changed the logo from being in the background of the cover and moved it so it was standing out on its own. This way the reader can know the company’s name and can connect the name with the company’s logo. Another big change to the brochure was changing the pictures to incorporate more images from past plays.

Over the past week I believe group 4 is progressively moving forward with the service learning project. My responsibility for the project was to design the brochure. I looked at the previous brochures from the Tantalus Theatre Group and noticed that they kept the brochure simple and kept certain things the same in each. I kept the vision and mission statement on the same pages as the past brochures. However, I changed the quotes throughout the brochure to give Tantalus an edgier appeal. I kept the color scheme dark to represent the mood of Dreadful Penny’s Exquisite Horrors.

After reading chapters 24 and 37, I believe I have learned more techniques to improve the look and content of out brochure and flyer. The audience of the brochure and flyer are going to be people interested in experimental action and artistry. I want to capture the essence of the off-beat nature of Tantalus Theatre Group. Chapter 24, Using Visuals to Inform and Persuade, discusses how visual content can achieve rhetorical goals that the author is trying to convey.

Attached are the PDF files for the Tantalus brochure and flyers. I also attached a word document of the flyer because the background image distorts when transfered to PDF. Our group will have to make changes to assure that this problem doesn't happen again.

I was assigned to group 4. Since it is the beginning of the project our group has tried to communicate through email and wiki. As of now, we are dividing the workload between each group member. The group members each listed abilities that they felt would benefit the service learning project. I emailed group members and have researched some information about the Theater. The key to getting a good grade on this project is communication. I think our group will utilize wiki and keep all members informed about their progress.

The brochure I chose contained information on how to become a Dental Hygienist. The first page of the brochure contains general information about taking a career in Dentistry field. It also explains what information a reader will find inside the brochure. The second page of the brochure explains the requirements of becoming a dental hygienist, the study programs offered and the fast growing career demand. The last page explains how to reach a representative for the Dental Assisting Program. All of the information contained in this brochure was concise and very descriptive.

The article I found in the San Francisco Chronicle reflects the events taken place during a snowstorm that led to angry confrontations between JetBlue Airways and its passengers. Irving Fain, a passenger, witnessed an altercation at gate 16 after a flight had been cancelled many times. He stated, “Passengers screaming, ‘We pay your salary!’ and the security guy screaming back.” Fain also explained, that this situation “happened at a number of gates and baggage claim, too.” Fain never made it to his destination and told the reporter that he would not fly with JetBlue again.
