Smolarczyk Work Blog Week 7

This week, we continued advising each other on our work and what our further revisions to be made to our original drafts should be. With the original flyer draft I had, I knew I had to do many changes to it relating to adding color and eye catching font and variations to it. To the same layout I had, I added a black background which already made it look a world better. I then made the font white and made some of the more important parts of the flyer's word a blood red to make the important words I wanted people to see first pop out.

After taking the five minutes brochure Design trash test, I think this gave me a new look on our brochure. I think that viewing it establishes the fact that we need some more work but it also proves that we have a strong draft. After the five minutes were up and I added up the score and ended up with two minuses. Which is not three but I still think there are a few things we need to adjust. As for the appealing aspect of the brochure that scored a plus because the language we chose did strike a cord with me and would with the audience in my opinion.

Looking over the draft today with new eyes that haven't been staring at it for too long gives way to a new perspective and new outlook on the whole thing. Looking over the flyer again, I think that it is neatly laid out and has good potential to be eye catching. Right now I think we will need to make it more eye catching and perhaps add a bit more color?

Searching through YouTube I also came across this link that showed how JetBlue customers were affected all over the world and not just in America: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWEvs7M4ArA&feature=related. This video shows a mob mentality beginning to form when JetBlue travelers are stuck at a Mexican airport and the workers cannot even explain to them the reasons for the delays or the cancellations because they do not even speak English. In my experience with flying out of country I have never experienced airport workers for any airline to not speak fluent English.

The JetBlue crisis was actually quite interesting to me in terms of learning about the whole situation. I remember sort of hearing about it in 2007 but I never knew too much about it or followed up about it. The whole situation was pretty much new news to me. The whole situation of course could have been better prepared for and against and of course could have been handled better, but that is the case with most things after the fact. When something happens, as in a crisis on a major level that affects millions of people, there are always ways it could have been handled better.
