Dallas Work Blog Week 8

This week, I really tried to change the overall image of our flyer. I wanted to try to be more creative with the photograph and the titles. I first began with the photograph. After reviewing comments about my original selection, I wanted to choose a more appropriate photograph for the flyer. I couldn’t find any with Dreadful Penny that suited my needs for the flyer. I finally chose a photo that I thought would be easy to add color effects for a more “creepy” look. I downloaded a program that makes editing photographs easy.

This week was very productive for my group, overall. There were drastic changes in the brochure, as well as the flyer. I was responsible for revising the flyer. I took into consideration comments from my group and our feedback from the instructor. There were some things I overlooked, but I have time to revise before the final draft. My main focus was trying to find an alternative to the banner for the title, which was very similar to the flyer used in the past.

Appeal to emotions (+). I think the cover of our brochure is appealing for our target market because it is intriguing and encourages them to “join” if they “dare.” The dark colors and the single line appeal to those who wish to be daring or those who like mysterious things. Be Professional (+/-). Overall, I think the design of the brochure is professional, but I feel there are a few inconsistencies. The image on the cover isn’t consistent with the other, better quality, photos on the inside. The front makes the show seem somewhat like a cartoon.

While creating and reviewing our first drafts of the brochure and flyer, I tried to focus mainly on the audience. After reading Chapters 24 and 37 in The Thomson Handbook, I was able to see how visuals can inform and persuade an audience and how a variety and emphasis can draw in your audience and keep them interested.

I was assigned to Group #4 with Kelley, Katie and Whitney. I originally emailed the group late Tuesday evening to encourage everyone to share their strengths and how they could be attributed to this project. I wanted to ensure everyone's skills were fully utilized in the project as I divided the work. From there, I began work on the Gantt Chart, since I am familiar with Microsoft Excel. The Gantt Chart wasn't finished until Friday because I had something come up and I was still waiting for special work requests, but I ended up dividing the work myself.
