THRUSH Work Blog Week #8

mjames's picture

The last week of the Service learning Project went really well. At the beginning of the week I wrote the weekly Activity report and emailed it to Professor Plough. On the following days I spent most of my time doing revising activities. I wrote several blogs and emails to my group members about suggestions and corrections that need to be made to both the brochure and flyer. I also talked a lot with Nicole and Phil on AIM. During this project, I have found AIM to be the most effective form of communication.

This past week has gone well for our group. Most of my time was consumed by the revision process (mostly with the brochure). After reviewing our brochure and looking over Mr. Plough's feedback, I posted a blog that clearly stated what I felt needed to be changed, why it needed to be changed, and what it should be changed to. At the end of my blog, I also asked my group members to respond and post what they think of my suggestions. This format has seemed to work out well for our group. I posted many more similar blogs to the one just mentioned throughout the week.

I recently completed the "5 Minute Brochure Design Trash" test and felt that it was beneficial to our group. The test was useful in that it pointed out things that could be improved before we turn in our final draft. Below, I have listed the scores I felt our brochure deserved.

THRUSH Work Blog Week #6

This past week picked up dramatically as the first rough draft was due on Wednesday. Since I was in charge of making the Gantt chart last week and updating it this week, my group members, Phil and Nicole, offered to put together the brochure and flyer. Although Phil and Nicole put together the brochure and flyer I did help them by providing needed information. At the beginning of the week, it was brought to my attention by Phil of a mistake on the Gantt chart. I fixed all of the mistakes and reposted it on the group five wiki.

After reading both chapter 24 and chapter 37, I realized there are many things such as variety, conciseness, audience, and design I neglect when writing. There are a lot of useful topics in these chapters that can be applied to our group’s Service Learning Project. In the past, when I made brochures, flyers, and posters, I did not realize the effect a picture can have on a document. According to “The Thomas Handbook” on page 559, a photograph or illustration “may be touchstones for analysis in the text.

Gantt Chart

Attached is group 5's Service Learning Gantt Chart. Group members include Michael Thrush, Nicole VanDeLeest, and Phil Goulet. I think this chart will be a good way to keep our group on track and prevent us from turning anything in late.

In the past two days, I have spent a decent amount of time looking at different brochures online. Finally, I chose the one attached to this blog.
