mdechow's blogDechow - Instruction Draft
Attached is a draft of my instruction project.
My usability questions are as follows:
1. Were you able to effectively perform this task?
2. Do you feel that the pictures were helpful?
3. What, if anything, would you change about the pictures?
4. Were any of the steps unclear?
5. Any other suggestions about the layout?

Dechow - Swing Set
This instruction set is a good representation of the four design principles. There is much repetition in the text when it is formatted in similar manners throughout the instruction set. The tables with steps and images are repeated several times as well. The instructions create a contrast between the sets of images and the text, which takes up the bulk of the document. Some photos are offered in color which creates a contrast from the plain black and white images and text.

Dechow - Revision ChallengeWhat information in the memo goes beyond what readers need to know? The information about the scientists who were sent to the hospital for minor issues is not relevant. The different kind of oxidizing agents and what they can do is not important as well as much of that paragraph which describes practices which are likely common within this company and do not need to be restated in a memo. Also, who is attending the meeting is not something the readers need to know. How can the memo be reorganized to highlight its purpose and main point?

Dechow - Doughnut History
The word doughnut throughout history has mostly been used as the meaning it is most widely known for today, the treat. That is defined as a small, spongy cake made of dough, which is usually sweetened and spiced, and fried or boiled in lard. It is frequently made in the shape of a thick ring. The word dates all the way back to 1809 when it was used to describe an enormous dish of sweetened dough, fried in hog’s fat, and rolled into the shape of balls. It was made clearer in 1861 when it was described as a roundish cake made of flour, eggs, and sugar, moistened with milk and boiled in lard.

Frostbite and Hypothermia
Playing outside in the winter with friends can be a fun event, but there are certain dangers that you must remember. When you are exposed to the cold temperatures of the winter your body can freeze and you could develop frostbite or hypothermia.
