English 421K, Technical Writing

I have attached word documents of my User Guide and my usability questions.

The content of the manual seem adequate. I think that I would have no problem constructing this swing set after reading this document. It covered everything from safety to construction. Most of the information was broken up into three columns, which worked really well in my opinion. I thought that having the step, information and hardware needed all in one area worked really well. There could have been a little more room in between the rows in the graphs, just to give the readers a little more of a break between the steps.

Attached is what I have at this point. I only have the first part done, and some of my screen shots put in, but the layout is set up. Let me know if you have any ideas or see anything that could be improved.

1. What information in the memo goes beyond what readers need to know? Some of the information that was is not necessary in the memo include: the information about the Illinois (ISFMO) the past injuries that have occurred, the compounds that can cause fires or explosions, and the problem from the past and the explanation for why it was still a problem.

2. How can the memo be reorganized to highlight its purpose? I would move the last paragraph to the beginning of the memo, take out the second paragraph, and then make the first paragraph into the last paragraph.

I liked the information that is presented in the original article, as I believe all kids ages 10 to 15 years old need to be taught all of it.

I believe the organization of the document could be changed a little to make the web page easier to follow. I would have the following section headings: -An Introduction to Frostbite and Hypothermia -Hypothermia -Frostbite -Tips to Avoid Frostbite and Hypothermia

There are several things that need to be done to make this document more accessible, attractive and interesting. I would start by making each section (Introduction, Identification and Biology, Stings, Detection and Monitoring, and Management Options) its own link on the web page. That way the important information would be separated and none of the text would get lost in the readers eye. I would then put pictures and easy to read graphs on each page so that even if the reader did not read the text, they would be able to understand the important information within it.
