English 421K, Technical Writing

The center alignment works because of the adequate use of white space between headers. There is an inconsistent use of columns. In page 5 there are two columns for the diagrams and only one for the text. Then on page six there are suddenly four columns. The number of bullets on the first few pages is approaching an overwhelming stage. Bullets later in document are tabbed farther in than at the beginning. There is a lot of distracting white space in the direction columns

The third and final of this great trilogy. Maybe I'll take after George Lucas and make a prequel in 20 years...

There is a lot of information that the intended audience does not need to know or it can be assumed they already know. In the first paragraph, the discussion about the policies is unnecessary and the history of incidents can be more concisely written. In the second, the intended audience, the employees, already know what they work with on a day-to-day basis.

The Full Monty

While the word origin of this phrase is not completely clear, it is known that it originated in British slang. It is thought to have originally referred to a full three-piece suit from a British tailor Montague Burton. However, since The Full Monty, a 1997 film about male strippers, the phrase has become associated with removing every bit of clothing and full nudity.(Wikipedia)

For a young person 10 - 15 years old to sit down with an attention span long enough to read the current document is asking quite a bit. Revising the webpage for their level would require breaking up the paragraphs and using more simple sentences. The paragraph concerning the elderly can be removed. Adding pictures will get the point across and help overcome the superman complex, "This can't happen to me." I also hope that the alcohol comment in the last paragraph isn't necessary for this age group.

Lois is concerned that those who need to read the document most might not read the document carefully enough to get the useful information from it. The most important section "Management Options" is buried deep into the document. I think it should be brought forward to fit right after "Identification and Biology". "Stings" should also be moved toward the end of the document so that it can be more consistant with the gray boxes. This document is crying out for color in at least the existing picture and boxes. However, sometimes all that is available is a black and white printer.

It seems that Henry has a goal to find a job that "would allow him to work and live abroad." If he's serious about this, specifically working in France, he would need to brush up and expand his familiarity with the native tongue anyways. I would think the best course of action would be to cram as much French as possible until the interview because it leaves more options available to Henry.
