Reading Response Week 6

Reading Response Week 6

There is really nothing that I could say regarding my draft for this week since I have not really participated on the group project yet. I just now started to recognize the emails and start to keep up with the emails. I think what Sheila, Kevin, and Jimmy had done is great.

Reading Response Week 6

For this project, our group has tried to use variety, conciseness, and audience to impact our design to be an effective way for the Crisis Center to spread word about its function. On the flyer designs that we were given to revise, the first thing I noticed was how text heavy they were.

I thought that Chapter 24 was really helpful and definitely more helpful then Chapter 37, because as another one of my group members because it's more focused on the word structure of the sentence when Chapter 24 is more related to the emphasis of the look of a poster or flyer. I had the task of making the flyer for the group.

I think the most important thing we kept in mind when we designed this project is that this is a fun event. In order to draw people to the Lafayette Christian School on that cold December day, we need to convince them that they are going to have a good time. Granted charity events are important to go to, but we will definitely get a better turn out if people are going to enjoy themselves.

In Chapter 24, I read about images and how images are used to capture an audience. I think the best example was the one where the literature books were being demolished by the CD. This image is giving a clear argument about how the advent of the computer/technology age is leading to the decline of using leather-bound books.

Reading Response Week Six

After reading Chapter 24 and 37 of "The Thomson Handbook" I have realized several things about my group's first draft. Chapter 24 makes some valid points about how to use visuals to inform and persuade. At first, it seems like we are just using our visuals to inform the public about an event, we are actually also using the visuals to persuade them to attend the Soup & Bread Concert.

Each one of my group members took on one draft and then all members helped to revise. My draft of the project was the press release. The press release focuses more on audience, variety, and conciseness and less on design. However, I tried to incorporate design into mine by using the soup and bread logo as the header.

As our group formulates out flyer, poster, and press release, we try to keep in mind the principals we have learned as we make decisions on word content, and design elements.

Ross Allen Reading Response Week 4

During the past week, each member of our group was assigned a different part of the project. We still made comments and gave input on the other parts, but we were all in charge of creating an initial. I was in charge of the flyer. When brainstorming, I knew that I had to make the flyer as eye-catching as possible, or give it that something that made it stick out from the others.
