Reading Response Week 5

Attached is the flyer that I chose to examine. It is a flyer to promote the new Disney service guidelines called the Basics. Each cast member should follow these guidelines while they are on stage (On stage is a term that means you are on the clock, while backstage means that you are off the clock). I chose to use it because I really like the layout and coloring of this flyer. I often passed stacks and stacks of these flyers when I walk to my office in the morning, and I really just fell in love with it. Even though this is such a simple flyer, I feel that it shows so many characteristics of a good flyer. They have one flyer with different classic Disney characters (Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, and Pluto) and they match the coloring of each flyer with the coloring of the character (example: Donald has more blue color, so he has a white background with blue and yellow stripes with blue and black lettering). I like how the name of the program matches the picture – the basics and they use Walt Disney’s original five basic characters to promote the program. This is such a simple flyer, yet it is very eye catching. The message is very clear – they use bullet points to stress each guideline that a cast member should follow.

I think that it is very important to have that eye catching effect. I passed this flyers so many times during the day and I’ve always been attracted to its design and color. I think it is such a cute little flyer. In an article we had to read previously, it mentions about the use of people; as consumers are being convinced about doing something, they want to see people on the flyer and how they relate to the particular product or offer. I think this is just similar in this case. Everybody loves Mickey Mouse, therefore he was chosen to be the one on this flyer with the hope that each cast member will project that positive image and energy, being courteous and respectful, stay in character, go above and beyond, and make a difference. I think that this flyer did an excellent job of using the principles mentioned in the book.

quick addition

This PDF copy of the flyer might seem a little bit pixilated. The original copy of the flyer has a sharper focus than this one. I think that it is also important on considering the size of pictures you are going to put on your flyer since it may look very bad if the picture looks pixilated like this one.
