Carder Design Log Week 16

The image to the left is one of the most intriguing designs I have found this semester. I really like how the typography of the picture creates an image. The size and contrast of the light and dark letters create a vivid picture of Jimi Hendrix. This design has no real practical use for the newsletter I am working on for project 5, but the design is still really neat.

The NFL website

This is a very professional site, and it has to be because it is the website of the most successful pro sport in America.  Right now, most of the content is about the recent amateur player draft that occured this past weekend, and they show the top picks at the top of the page in a scrolling method.  I like the content on this site but I think the design is very smart and you can tell the NFL uses good design in putting it together.  NFL.com

Design Log 15

This week's design log will be reflective of my final project.  Suzie and I are designing a website that can be used as an online portfolio of sorts.  I've based our design similarly off a friend's online portfolio, which can be found here http://web.ics.purdue.edu/~khabig/.

Week 15 Design Log

www.twitter.com

The design of twitter is really nice because it is so simple.  Unlike other social networking sites, there's not a lot to do on twitter.  It is very easy to use and therefore, appealing.  There are options for users to choose their own color schemes.  The navigation on the top, right and botom make everything very easy to find.  The site is incredibly user-friendly, which is why (I think) so many people enjoy using it.

Design Log Week 14

For this week's design log, I've chosen a T-shirt of the NBA star Lebron James.  I drew inspiration from this T-shirt because it uses the NBA Playoff motto: "Where ***** happens", with this one being "Where Gametime Happens".  For my own T-shirt, I will be sticking with "Where Will Amazing Happen".

Design Log-projects 4 and 5

I have found that I can do a lot more (or at least understand more) in Photoshop rather than InDesign. It is helpful that I have had a friend work with me on another project in PS. I found a way to apply textures to backgrounds in PS and I am almost finished on choosing a color scheme and typography. I like Calibri for body text, Cambria for headings, and Trebuchet for super headings. I also like the warm color scheme (project 5) that I used for the brochure and the flyer. This weekend, I will begin design work on both projects.

Week 14 Design Log

http://www.eclecticstudio.biz/dev/

This is a website that a fellow student in ENGL 419 created for the Eclectic hair salon and massage studio.  I really like the colors that she chose along with the photos that she used.  The navagation is user-friendly and consistent throughout the site.  It's very well organized.  I was very impressed by this website.  I have created a personal website for the same class and it looks nothing like this site does.

This week I began to look for interesting images that can serve as assets for my stationary design inspiration.  I looked at stationary I own, as well as letterheads on stationary at book and craft stores.  Since I am an apparel design major, I am around fabric all the time and looking at the different trimmings involved with apparel inspires me also.
