This is my second attempt at posting my report. The first one was successful, but when I edited the file and tried to repost it, the link did not work. So...attached is my report in .doc and .pdf format.

Interview Project Proposal--Marc Hert

As a relatively new major of study at Purdue University, the Professional Writing program may have some faults. One of these faults lies mainly in the hands of the students who take this track—they don’t really know what types of careers will be available to them once they graduate. This project illuminates the dark areas of the student’s knowledge of the subject by providing first hand accounts of writers in the field.

Subject and Purpose

My maps subject broaches the topic of students working and their opinions on the jobs affect on their academic performance. I know while in college I have had the fear of getting a job; I always thought it would make my grades sink. This map’s purpose is to, hopefully, enlighten students of Purdue University to the reality that having jobs is not always a bad thing, but according to some students, can instill a better use of time and an amelioration of organizational skills.

Information Request

Hi everyone. I know it is late but I'm trying to give my research a little more validity by expanding my survey pool. My mapping project is seeking to map if students who work think that their job affects their academic performance (either positively or negatively).

So, if you would like to help out a fellow classmate, please email your responses to mhert@purdue.edu

1.) Do you work during the school year?

2.) Do you think students having jobs during the academic year affects their academic performance?

3.) Do you work on or off campus?

Progress Report Marc Hert

Introduction

My initial project idea was to just quantitatively measure what percent of students surveyed work through college. I was going to, but not as a main part of my project, include their opinions on how having a job affects their academic success. But since that precursory proposal I have tightened my focus to try to qualitatively evaluate the effect (or assumed, opinioned effect) work has on the academic success. This would let my data be more valid with a smaller number of applicants, so the research should go easier.

Introduction

Maps are used for more reasons that just to convey information; they serve specific purposes constructed by their designers depending on the nature of the map. A map is usually perceived to be a representation of certain aspects of the geographic world, but some map topics and issues . In college, many students have jobs outside of their school work, but how is their academic success effected by their work responsibilities? The following two maps do more than simply show geography, but also map issues relevant to their readers.
