Interview Proposal

In English 306 this semester, I have had the opportunity to learn more about Professional Writing and what this degree is going to mean to me. Before taking this class, I wasn’t completely sure what professional writing entails. There are so many options for what I will be able to do with this major and I am really pleased to know this because I am not a person who can make a decision. I like to have more than one choice, especially with something that is going to dictate my career after leaving Purdue University.

Project Assessment

For the mapping project, I chose a topic dealing with the news media available to Purdue students. I wanted to present the readers of my map with the information they need to see how we view the world through four media outlets that are easily accessible to students and faculty. The newspapers I focused on were the Journal & Courier, The Indianapolis Star, the Exponent, and The Chicago Tribune.

The subject of my mapping project is to show where the news we receive in West Lafayette IN comes from. By providing the information about where the common news sources in Lafayette receive their news from, such as the Associated Press or Gannett, shows the reader there are not as many different types of news sources as one may think. The world of news is turning to corporations who run everything, there are less and less unbiased news sources available to the consumer.
