1) An extended account of the interview, including location, time, and circumstances:

Interview Proposal

It has become apparent to me throughout this semester that there are a great deal of career opportunities in the field of professional writing. One possibility that seems particularly interesting to me is journalism. Therefore, I've chosen to interview Eric Weddle, the General Assignment Reporter at the Journal and Courier of Lafayette.

Mapping Project Assessment

In my map, I attempt to visually argue that certain forms of knowledge at Purdue University are obviously privileged over other forms. In order to do this, I compare the enrollments the various colleges at Purdue with their respective budgets. The comparison yields a ratio which I called the disbursement of funds per student in each school. I order these in a way which I hope was both argumentative and visually stimulating.

Rough Draft: Matt Bradney

SUBJECT: This map deals with the budgets of the schools and colleges at Purdue, the enrollment of the schools and colleges at Purdue, and the relation of those statistics.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this map is to demonstrate which knowledges are privileged at this university by comparing the budgets with enrollment. The greater this ratio, the more the university likely emphasizes this type of knowledge.

AUDIENCE: The intended audience of this map are current students as well as prospective (undergraduate and graduate) students of Purdue.

RESEARCH

My research is essentially completed. I have located the two sets of data necessary for my map, thanks to some helpful documents online. These include the "Current System Wide Operating Budget," a document available on the website of the Office of Budget & Fiscal Planning; and the Purdue data digest. These provide me with the operating budgets of the various schools and colleges at Purdue, as well as the enrollment in those colleges.

Analysis: Operating Budgets at Purdue

INTRODUCTION

The two documents I am analyzing are the Purdue University Budget Summary, from the Office of Budget and Fiscal Planning, and the Data Digest of the College of Consumer and Family Sciences, available on the College's website.

CAMPUS ISSUE TO BE MAPPED

The discrepancy between the financial resources of the various schools and colleges at Purdue University is visibly apparent. For my mapping project, I will compare the annual operating budgets of the colleges and schools at Purdue. I will also give the figures of the number of students in the schools and colleges. In this way, it will be possible to see clearly those knowledges which are privileged by the University and those which are not.
