Our Illustration project is how to use the software Google SketchUp. It can be downloaded at www.sketchup.com. The second part of our project is uploading it onto Google Earth. This can be downloaded at www.googleearch.com. You can also access the download link at http://www.google.com/intl/en/options/Once they are downloaded we show the user how to build their own house and how to upload it onto Google Earth. It is a very simple process.

I feel that our project is coming to and end. We have most of our information to were we need it and people have commented on it and we have listened to them. We need to do the following things as a group to finalize our project

Review Illistrated Instructions

Review Usability Test

Check both for grammatical errors

Make sure we incorporated all our feedback into both documents

Review each again

Finalize our work for submition

After we complete these steps which shouldnt take too long we should be ready to submit our work for a grade.

Barker Week 11 Memo

Barkerc's picture

This week went fairly well. We were both very busy and didnt talk a lot, however we to talk to each other when we find time on AIM. It is the best tool for comunication. This week we updated our Usability test and our Instructions and posted them online for everyone to see and use. Hopefully we recieve some responces so we can update it to make it that much better and one step closer to hand in. I feel we have completed a lot expecially with the distance barrier we must compete against. I feel we have put ourself in a good position for this project.

Project Log Week 11

JoreyL's picture

With the completetion of week 11 everything for the project seems to be moving along extremely well.  This week Team Awesome made final draft of our Usability Test and posted a draft of our complete instructions.  Craig and I are finding it easy to break the distance between us to complete this project.  We have been in communication via IM frequently talking about the project and how to make it work.  The only problem was that last week since I did not have spring break like Craig had.  I worked ahead to make sure that when he returned that everything was ready to go.  We have submitted all of the tasks with in the time set for their submission.  I think that we are close to having our final draft of our instructions, with only a few minor things here and there to fix that may pop up as we go over it again.  Other than that it was a good week for us and we believe that we have a great set of instructions.

Barker's Reading Response

Barkerc's picture

This reading gave us a good idea of how to make our instructions a lot better and more clear to the reader. I thought our instructions were very clear and easy to follow and the pictures were incorporated very well. One thing that we didnt have was special notices. We will try to incorporate them into the instructions if we find it necisary.

A good illistrated instruction paper should be easy to follow and without question, because the purpose of the material is to show someone how to do something without you actually having to be there to do it for them. If its clear and easy to follow and the person can do it without question, that is what makes a good usability test as well as instruction.

Barker Reading Response

I have had a lot of experience with instructions. As a kid i was into models and legos and they all came with instructions. also everything you have to assemble comes with instructions. I have found that it is very easy to assemble something if there are pictures that go along with them. If there isnt there is a lot of confusion involved in the process and it causes lots of problems, usually taking twice the amount of time that it would normally.

The best illistrations are ones that follow you through the events as you go giving you step-by-step instructions and show you what you need to be doing. These make for the easiest processes, expecially if you are unfamilure with the process or system.

Some of the content that we will need for our illistration will be as follows:

The tool bar

The tools on the tool bar

How to use the application

Pictures of the processes

Barker Project Log

This week was very productive and we got a lot done. We divided up out project into two parts, my working on the Google Earth part, and my partner working on the Googe sketchUp and house design. We completed our usability test and the illistrated instructions first draft. We worked very efficiently as a team and the communication between us was the best its been as long as we have been a group. I really hope this synergy continues because it will make this project a lot easier and we should recieve a good grade. As of now we havnt talked about what we will be doing the week after spring break. We will probably deal with it as it comes.
