Resume Review

zdmiller's picture
After getting some good feedback about my resume and cover letter, here are a few things that I am going to change.  As far as the cover letter goes, I will try to include a little more info about the company to show my research and interest in the company.  Also, I will try to elaborate a little more on my qualifications and add a little personality to the whole tone while keeping it very professional.  As far as the resume goes, I will try to make the detail even more relevant to the specific job description, space out the page a little better to hopefully seem less cramped, and elaborate on my past work experience.

My resume and cover letter comments

I really cannot think of anything else i should add to my cover letter.  I believe it gets to the point and still describes me as much as one would expect to see in a cover letter.

In my resume the only thing i question is if i should have references included or tehre is maybe anything else i should add.  As of now it appears to me that it gets to the point without being too cluttered.

Resume Blog Assessment

After reading my peer reviews and looking over my own resume and cover letter I believe I do need to make some changes.  First I need to update the font of my resume.  Many things do not seem very uniform and that is just being lazy and sloppy.  Also I seem to overload the one internship I had which seems overbearing.  I need to spread it out a little more and not make things seem so cramped.  For my application letter I believe that I need to have a little more passion and stop sounding so bland.  Some of my peers thought mine was just an application letter that was very general.  They did not really know I was submitting it for a Project Management Position. I need to use many more keywords that will stand out to the employer and give me the edge over a competitor.  Overall I believe my resume is better than my cover letter but both are still not perfect.  I will continue to update each and do my homework before I submit either.

Resume Improvements

There are multiple ways in which I can edit and improve my resume. After reading over Jacob’s peer review, I saw that there were a few very important things that I can do to build my resume up. Some of the things that he mentioned were organizing things in level of importance, text size, detailed information, and changing the mission statement. I tailored my resume out of a book that I received from the Center for Career Opportunities at Purdue, and it seems to disagree with a lot of notes in the Thomas Handbook. First, I did not bullet my items under my work experience. This would be a good idea because of organization and also order. These lists then will need to be order into level of importance and start with action verbs. I actually missed the action verb part in the book before I edited my past resume, but it seems to be a very good idea to do for the future. I will also consider making fonts different and some text even bigger to catch the eye of the reader.

Improvements and Changes to My Resume (for Fri Feb 8)

There are a couple different ways that I could improve and edit my resume. After reading an effective peer review, I receieved some very helpful suggestions that highlighted changes I can make. To begin with, what caught my attention the most about the peer review was the fact that she noted there is a lot of white space. I could improve my resume my reducing the white space and changing the overall alignment of text by taking advantage of the horizontal space. I like this suggestion a lot because I have had a difficult time fitting everyything I want on the page, which has reduced my ability to elaborate on certain aspects. This brings me to another improvement that I would like to make. I have a lot of information on the resume and it has been tough for me to elaborate because of confined space/size limitations. By utilizing the horizontal space, I can give myself more room, improving upon both the layout of the resume and the elaboration of content simultaneously!

Resume Draft

Attached is a draft of my resume. Please leave me feedback on what you think of it, what you think an employer will think, and anything you want me to change.

Thanks,

Kenan

EDIT: This is for an internship with Amazon.

Resume Draft

I have attached two resumes. The first one  is the word document I normally use . The second is a PDF. It looks a little weird because the formatting is visible. I would welcome any comments on the resumes

Thanks
