Exaggerated Cover Letter

Dear Sir or Madam,

Amazon is all about writing good code, and selling lots of products. I know that, you know that, and that is why, I know I am the perfect candidate for your internship. Let's not kid each other. I have a strong academic record at a competitive engineering school, and have hours upon hours of experience in software development and product management. I'm the guy you want, and if you are as obsessed about efficiency as I am, then you should put down the pile, and call me, because you won't find a better applicant for your internship.

Waiting for your call,

Kenan Rahmani

The main exaggeration here is the "In Your Face" approach. It gives a very arrogant, informal, and even condescending sound to the letter. The "Me" approach is also used because it lists a lot of exaggerated skills from my inventory. It could also be an "I know what you need" because I went ahead and said I am the person you want. The approach is overly subjective, and it won't fly with an employer.

Response to Cover Letter

I agree that the “In Your Face” approach makes you look like your arrogant and cocky.  When you wrote “I know that, you know that, and that is why, I know I am the perfect candidate for your internship”, was a perfect line for the “In Your Face” approach.  It is definitely not a good idea to use this approach and you can tell just by reading your cover letter.  If I was an employer and read this letter, I definitely would have thrown it away.  Good job on the exaggerated cover letter, you made a perfect example of the “In Your Face” approach.

You did a very good job

You did a very good job showcasing the 'In Your Face' and the 'I know what you need' approaches. The cover letter was very arrogant and condescending, an approach that would not be tolerated in the work place. The skill exaggeration and the I'm the guy you want kind of style was well done.
