Questions?? January and February
Posted February 25th, 2008 by kamckelv
Now that we're settling into the semester, we'll use this blog space for any questions that you have. This centralizes the questions that many may have, and puts my answers in the same space. This is helpful as we move further into the Employment Project and move on to the Illustrated Instructions project.
Please "add new comment" below to post your questions. Thanks,
Kevin

Questions about Project 1, Step 1
Professor McKelvey,
I had a couple of questions about Step 1. First of all, do you want the skills inventory, job announcement, job ad analysis response, and
cover note all in one blog post with the Step 1 Draft category? Or do you want them in separate blog posts? And secondly, I can't seem to find where it talks about the cover note. What is the cover note, and could you point me to place where it talk about it? Thanks a ton.
Jon Seger
Blog posts and cover notes
Yes, put them all in one blog post.
A cover note is simply a brief paragraph or two that introduces and summarizes your attachments for that post. We'll use them throughout the semester on different posts for drafts and final projects.
Thanks,
Kevin
Blog Tag
Should this post go under 'Step 1 drafts' or 'Final Employment Project'? I notice no one has yet put theirs in the latter, but if this is the final draft of step 1 should it not go there? Or am I misunderstanding the categorization?
Thanks,
~Jacob
step 1 drafts
Use the Step 1 drafts tag for this post. Thanks,
Kevin
Question?
Kevin,
I know we're supposed to have at least five comments a week on reading responses and usually two peer reviews on deliverables. What constitutes a week?
Ie) For the reading response that was due on Wednesday, does that mean that I have until next Wednesday to space out my comments?
Thanks,
Erin
Comment Posting
The week ends on Friday. Try to focus most of your comments on that week's post. But you could have a 1 or 2 comments earlier in the week from the previous week's post. Thanks,
Kevin

Employment Project step 1
Hello Kevin,
I notice that the job that I choose for my first step of Employment project was different from what I actually wrote in my job application letter and resume. Does that ok for me to do that?
-Hilmi
Well, you lose out on a lot
Well, you lose out on a lot of preliminary work in the job ad analysis that will benefit your letter and resume. You should work through the job ad analysis again for the job ad you used. Thanks,
Kevin
Hello Kelvin, I just want
Hello Kelvin,
I just want to let you know that I had made some changes on my job ad and my job ad analysis. I change it so that it has some kind of connection with my cover letter and resume.
Thanks for posting and
Thanks for posting and letting me know. Take care,
Kevin
Can someone please review my
Can someone please review my cover letter? It got skipped over I feel like. I changed the attachment but I'm not sure why no one reviewed it.
Thanks,
Kenan
Question about Grades
I'm not sure if I missed this either here or in the course content somewhere, but are we going to have a way to check our grades throughout the course?
Unlike Blackboard or WebCT,
Unlike Blackboard or WebCT, our drupal-powered website does not have a gradebook feature. You'll have to keep track of your grades the old-fashioned way.
Employment Project Questions
Kevin,
I have two related questions. First, is the final project assessment document supposed to be a separate post from the final employment project? It's listed separately, but at the same time is supposed to be part of the combined pdf. And if it is supposed to be separate, does the deadline extension apply to it as well? (equivalently, are you going to review the assessment document drafts?)
Thanks,
Jacob
The final project assessment
The final project assessment should be combined with your letter and resume. That category tag was for the draft due earlier in the week. I do not plan to review the assessment drafts because I want to see how you integrate peer feedback and develop your own self-assessment. Thanks,
Kevin
Question about project 2
Hello Kelvin,
I have question about project 2. You said failing to turn in drafts on the due date will result in a one letter grade deduction from your final grade.Does it mean the final grade for this particular project or the final grade for this whole course.
Thanks,
-Mohd Hilmi Mohd Salleh
Clarification
That means for the project, not the entire course. Thanks for posting.
-Kevin
Sorry
I had a question but figured it out.
Project 2 Questions
Kevin,
I was wondering if there was a form you wanted us to fill out for the two proposal peer reviews due this Friday?
Also, for the illustrated instructions draft due Monday should each teammate come up with their own entire instructions draft or does each teammate just need to post the instructions draft that the group comes up with?
Thanks,
Seth
Answers
No, no form. Offer 100-200 words like you would in any other comment. Use your developing editing skills to offer advice.
The draft for Monday is an initial draft of only 1-2 pages, and serves as way to get each student started on the instructionsso that groups can anticipate needs for drafting, research and writing.
Page Navigation 1....100
I just thought I would comment that I just noticed you can scroll pages on this site. At the bottom there are VERY FAINT numbers that allow you to view pages. Kevin, if that could be fixed, it would help a lot. Either that, or I am colorblind, because I can not even find it when I'm looking right at it.
Changing your theme
The course website has many different themes availabe, which give you different options for text, color and layout.
To change yours, click on "My Account" in your navigation menu. Next, click on the "Edit" tab and then you can scroll down and set a new theme that better meets your needs.
Thanks,
Kevin
