DVD Profilers Multimedia Presentation Draft

nateth3gr8's picture

Attached are the files for our presentation.  To be played correctly, all files need to be in the same location.  We used video with audio to explain how people may benefit from this product.  On the slides that have nothing on them, there are videos that are linked to the PowerPoint.  Unfortunately, there is not an efficient way to join the two into one convenient file.  I will try to find a solution before the final sumbission.  Any feedback on the style or content is greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

Here is a link to a zip file containing the PowerPoint and video files.  Please unzip the entire folder before opening the PowerPoint.

comment on your multimedia presentation

Amanda's picture

Your multimedia presentation looks good so far. The layout of the powerpoint slides is good and the content is well organized. I do not think there is anything you need to change about the content. Because I could not hear the video I was not sure how that fit into your project. There are some slides that definitely need audio because they just have a figure and a title, but I think it would also be good to include the audio throughout the presentation so that you can explain the advantages of the system in more detail. I also noticed that for a few of the slides you used the same figure and I could not tell if anything had changed on the screen. It may help to put a circle or point an arrow to what you are talking about in each of those slides so there is some variation. Overall it is a great draft and I think it will turn out really well.

I would agree with the previous comment that your presentation looks great. The layout of the presentation has been really well done and looks very professional. I however was unable to get the videos to work, but as you noted, that is an issue that your group is looking to resolve. We are in the same boat, so it would be interesting to see if we collaborate on a solution together. It is awesome that you guys have incorporated audio in your videos, and should be extremely helpful to the user. All in all, your group has gotten a great draft done of your Multimedia Presentation, and once the group gets the video/audio working in the Powerpoint, I wouldn't change much else to it.

I liked your Multimedia Presentation draft, I think this was done very effectively and you have a great layout. I was also unable to get the videos to work, but I am excited to see the final draft. One suggestion I have with the presentation is to see if you can get some of the screen shots a little bit more clear and easier for the user to see. In my personal experience it is really helpful to take your screen shot and then open in paint. Once in paint there is an option to "zoom," you can create a custom zoom of 150%-200% which keeps the text clear, but also narrows down specifically what the user should pay attention to! Overall, I think this looks great. I like your use of bullet points, it makes it very easy to follow.

Peer Review

I think you have a good start here. Like the others, the videos won’t play for me (it seems the files are missing). However, what I can see looks good: the layout is good, you clearly state explain the product and what it can do for your client, and you finish it off in a professional manner. My one concern is that the videos are all grouped together. Again, this may be nothing since I can’t see them, but I would think you’d need at least a slide or two in between to explain what the videos are going to cover and such. Also, the ‘Updated DVD List’ slide may need a little more: if this were a physical presentation I’m sure it’d be explained well, but as the PowerPoint is supposed to be standalone, I don’t really clearly understand the feature from the slide. Other than those minor things, it looks good.

Presentation comment

I too could not get the video working, but I have a good understanding of what the videos will be. The presentation looks very professional and seems that it could be used as both stand alone, and as a presentation on a projector. From the preview shots the video seems pretty low quality I imagine to save space. You might just want to be sure that this doesn't cause it to be overly blurry. You may want to give the trial of Captivate a run if you need a smaller footprint to work with.

Comments

Overall, you have a really engaging structure throughout. Your slides represent the persuasive points that you need to make in your presentation. With those videos, you might also add a summary slide if users/readers don't have time to watch the videos. Make sure you package the videos in the final file. Otherwise, the information you present is really effective. The conclusion slide is engaging and needed. On the title slide, use a subtitle to start your persuasion there. You should also include your names in small text on the title page.

In your user documentation, you include and instruct on the relevant information. I can't really think of any steps to add--maybe some in the final section?? What you can do is offer more context for your audience, both in the introduction and in a conclusion. Each section also contains relevant context and background information. In revision, I think the main thing to focus on is readability and layout. For instance, the icons list at the beginning could be a table. Later on, don't put images and text side by side. It's hard to read. Because images need to be larger, center them and have not instructions text on either side. Be sure to include Fig. 1 titles and captions. If feasible in the text, you could possibly use more bold to show keywords or actions in the software.
