DVD Profilers User Documentation Draft

Here is our groups User Documentation.  Since this is only the rough draft a few of the screen captures are missing and there may be quite a few gramatical errors.  Please review the content to make the instructions the best they can be.

This looks like a very thorough, well though out set of instructions. The first part makes really good use of figures to explain the instructions, but figures may needed to be added to the last part for the final draft It is good that you explain each of the options because this will make it easier for users to choose what to do with the programs. It is also good that you explained which steps to use for uploading a DVD and when the different sets of steps should be used. I especially liked that when you were explaining the options you inserted a picture of each of the buttons so users would know which button to click on. This might have been confusing otherwise. Overall I think it is a great draft!

This seems to be a very good document. I like how it is broken into sections that make it easier to understand. I also like the icons next to the instuctions that also make understanding easier. I personally have no ideas for improvement. Good Job.

I talked to Jeff about your project and I think it would be very useful for the dorm to keep track of the DVDs. The instructions look very professional and have been formatted extremely well. The pictures look good and have a lot of placement variety within the text. I envy that ability as I am not very good Word. I also noticed a good use of fonts to alert the user better to important items. The program you are using is very cool as well, is it open source or freeware? If so, that makes it even cooler.

I liked how you used figure numbers and referenced the figures in your write up. This makes it much simpler for the user to know exactly what you are referring to. Figures are just big enough to be able to read them and see what you want them to see. On page 3 of your user documentation the small text boxes to the right of figure 3 could be adjusted to allow for easier reading. The very last illustration on page five is missing a figure number. Very good for a first draft, I would expect this presentation to do very well.

Overall, I liked your user documentation. I think you have a good incorporation of details, text, and visual aids. One suggestion I have is in the physical layout of the text and visual aids. Some of your visuals are placed to the left or right of the text, and it is a little confusing to determine what the visual goes along with. It might be helpful to put the visual after the text, for example-centered below the text. One thing I really like with your visuals is the way you added to the screen shots, such as by circling a specific area in red. This draws my attention to this area, and helps to demonstrate the importance of that visual. I like that you used letters and numbers for bullet points. This helps to keep the reader organized while reading, and also is easier to follow than common black bullets. Overall this looks really great. Can't wait to see the final product!
