Project 3 Question

rwil's picture

Kevin,

I was wondering that if our group selects a program such as eBay or YouTube, which doesn't already have instructions from Project 2, will we have to compile our own new set of instructions for Project 3?

-Seth

new instructions

Well, you'd have to compile a new set of user-specific instructions for Project Three anyway, so it's not a problem if there aren't any instructions from Project Two.

Thanks,

Kevin

project 3 proposal

I did not see a tag for project 3 group proposal, so DVD Profiler's is under the client email tag.

Thanks

I added some tags today. I'll add more throughout the week. Take care,

Kevin

Usability Study Question

Kevin,

What is the desired length of the usability study (individual, and compiled)? Is it supposed to be a shortish document like the usability test in project 2, or more comprehensive?

Also, in our chat  I think you implied that the individual study doesn't have to cover the entire topic. For example, in our project there is installation and usage, and it could focus on one or the other. I'd just like to confirm that this is the case.

Thanks,

~Jacob

Response on Project Three

See this post first: More Project Three Clarifications.

As for length, the individual usability study should be similar to what you did in Project Two, and should be about two pages in length. Groups will have many different needs, so eight to ten questions/guidelines/ratings/etc. and 200-300 words should be sufficient.

The compiled usability should be around four pages or 1000 words, but graphs, tables or bullet lists could lower that word count significantly.

Within your group of five, you can divide up group members to focus on a specific aspect of the topic.

Please reply is you have more questions.

Thanks,

Group Usability Study

Erin's picture

Kevin,

Is the group usability study just a large usability test or is it more a report that discusses our findings from the individual usability tests we created?

Thanks,

Erin

usability report

It's a report that includes your findings from the individual tests. Ultimately, you want to summarize those individual tests and decide on the best options for your user documentation and the multimedia presentation. Thanks,

Individual Usability Study

zdmiller's picture

Kevin,

I would also like to know more information about the individual usability study.  I've looked in the calender and the project description, and I cannot find a description about this assignment anywhere.  Basically, could you just tell me(us) what you are looking for in this assignment.

Thanks,

Zach

Rewrite Proposal

Mylez's picture

What exactly is the 'story' content type?

story content type

It's just a different kind of content type. The main difference is that it posts to the front page of the website, and we used it in this case so other groups can see other proposals easily.

Checklist

Can you post an updated checklist for project 3?

this week

I plan to post it this week. Thanks,

Kevin

Adobe Connect and Captivate

Erin's picture

For those of us who aren't on campus this semester, is there anyway we can access any of the alternative multimedia presentation tools you suggested (such as Captivate or Connect)?  They don't appear to be on DACS.  They both have trial versions...is that what we're supposed to be using?

 Thanks,

Erin

Thanks for checking DACS. If

Thanks for checking DACS. If the programs aren't there, then you can use the campus or trial versions. Groups can still use PowerPoint if they choose.

Comments

Kevin,

Is the calendar correct in that we need to have 5 comments for next week (week 16)? I'm confused on what these should be, since there is no reading response next week.

Thanks,

~Jacob

Oops

Oops. Too much copying and pasting. I fixed it. No comments next week, but you can finish comments from this week. Thanks,

Kevin

User Documentation

srwalker's picture

How long does the user documentation report need to be, and is there specific content that we need to make sure and include?  Or is it pretty much set up like the project 2 instructions??

User Documentation

You need to include the relevant, client-specific information you found in completing your usability tests and completing your usability reports. You need to meet your client's needs, and this will probably require 10-15 pages like in Project Two. Thanks,

Kevin

Multimedia Presentation

Erin's picture

Kevin,

I think there might be some confusion on the multimedia presentation. The formal project description describes a presentation that would "stand-in as viewable documentation." In your project clarification blog post, you describe the multimedia presentation as a proposal or recommendation to implement our Web 2.0 application. Which description better fits this deliverable? I was under the impression that our presentation was supposed to basically a motivational presentation designed to convince our client that our project is worthwhile. Could you provide some more clarification?

Thanks,

Erin

Response

You want to include some parts of your user documentation. How you do that is up to the group. Some presentations are will be more persuasive. Others will be more instruction-oriented. It's up to the group to decide on the right mix. Thanks,

Kevin

Responses

Hey Kevin, with there being no reading response, what is expected response-wise this week and next?

No responses are expected

No responses are expected this week. I put an entry on the Checklist in case you post any this week, but it's not required. Thanks,

Kevin
