Team Ramrod - Instructions Draft and Usability Test

Attached is Team Ramrod's complete instructions draft for our project on the usage of MATLAB. Following is the final draft of the usability test. Thank you in advance for any and all feedback.

Usability Test for MATLAB Introduction

Thank you for assisting Team Ramrod by participating in this usability study. Your feedback is very important to us to improve our instructions for using MATLAB. Please answer the following questions as you follow along with the instructions. In addition to the given questions, any additional input you may have is appreciated.

Navigation

1. Do you have a clear understanding of each of the four standard MATLAB windows and their purposes? If not, which could be explained better?

Arithmetic

2. Are you comfortable with the command-response nature of MATLAB? Is the way you enter commands and interpret the results intuitive, or should it be explained more thoroughly?

3. Did the examples in this section provide a good cross-section of the features you would expect to find in an arithmetic calculator?

4. Did you understand the use of variables, and how they may be used to solve algebraic problems?

Simple Matrices

5. Did you understand each of the equivalent methods for entering matrices into MATLAB?

6. Was it intuitive how arithmetic operators (e.g., ‘+’ or ‘*’) can mean different things in different contexts? For example, did you stumble with the fact that a ‘*’ operator between a scalar and a matrix performs scalar multiplication, whereas a ‘*’ between two matrices performs matrix multiplication?

The MATLAB Library

7. Do you feel comfortable with the task of finding a desired built-in function, either using the 'lookfor' command or the Help window?

8. After completing all the instructions, do you feel you have a good introductory understanding of MATLAB and feel equipped to learn how to solve more specialized problems?

9. Please enter any additional comments or concerns which we may use to improve our illustrated instructions.

Team CompGE Usability Response

Good work guys, just a few minor errors that we've pointed out in the attached response.
