A-Team reply to team TBA-Lawrence-Lindsey Usability
I just retyped the usability test questions below and answered them accordingly. You guys did a great job on the instructions. We did the instructions on a Linksys router if you wouldn't mind doing our usability test also. Thanks.
1. Are you comfortable and able to log in and navigate to different tabs in the router setup and change the ADMIN password?
Yes, this process was very easy. The D-Link router setup page is more user friendly then the Linksys setup screen that we produced.
2. Were you able to setup the Wireless Setup tab corresponding to steps 4-7 of the instructions?
Yes, the instructions explained everything I needed to know.
3. Were you easily able to setup WEP or WPA encryption for the router's wireless security?
Yes, again this process was easy. You may want to explain a little more the different encryption types and security features they offer.
4. Were you able to find the MAC filtering and setup your router to use MAC filtering allowing only select computers to access your router?
Yes, I was able to do this. Please explain a MAC address andn how to enter the LAN connection properties from the control panel also. It think this would give the user a better idea on how to access the properties.
5. If necessary, did you have trouble looking up your MAC address in Windows Operating System?
I did not have any trouble, but another user may have trouble. Without knowing who your audience is this step is rather difficult to explain.
6. Did you have any trouble setting an IP reservation to your computer.
No, I accomplished this task. Please explain a little more about static IP addresses.
7. Were you able to set-up port forwarding to correctly forward a port to a program?
Yes, the instructions on this were great.
8. Did you find our screen shots helpful. Any way to improve on them?
The screen shots were very helpful while following the instructions. They could possibly be a bit bigger because some of the text is blurred when transfered to PDF. I wouldn't be afraid of adding large screen shots, they will help tremendously in the end.
9. Were the directions clear enough for you to make it through with little confusion.
The directions were written very well and easy to follow. A good suggestions would be to explain key terms a little more in depth.
10. Did some of the directions not work out like they were supposed to?
No, everything worked great.
Usability test feedback
Sorry, I do not have Acrobat on this computer. So here are my responses and feedback for your usability test. Overall, great job!
1. Are you comfortable and able to log in and navigate to different tabs in the router setup and change the ADMIN password?
Yes, you explained how to do the process very well.
2. Were you able to setup the Wireless Setup tab corresponding to steps 4-7 of the instructions?
Yes, the instructions explained everything I needed to know.
3. Were you easily able to setup WEP or WPA encryption for the router's wireless security?
Yes, again you were very descriptive. You I like the fact that you went into explaining the choices and why you would want to choose one over the other.
4. Were you able to find the MAC filtering and setup your router to use MAC filtering allowing only select computers to access your router?
Yes, but you may want to explain what a MAC address is.
5. If necessary, did you have trouble looking up your MAC address in Windows Operating System?
No trouble here, but I am an experienced comptuer user.
6. Did you have any trouble setting an IP reservation to your computer.
No problems here.
7. Were you able to set-up port forwarding to correctly forward a port to a program?
Yup, good instructions
8. Did you find our screen shots helpful. Any way to improve on them?
Larger screenshots could help with maybe red circles or arrows for pointing to which part of the screenshot you are talking about for each specific step.
9. Were the directions clear enough for you to make it through with little confusion.
Very good explanations of how to do the steps, but you may want to expand further on why you are doing the steps.
10. Did some of the directions not work out like they were supposed to?
Everything worked out fine
