Google Maps Instructions Draft and Complete Usability Test

Usability Test – Team C Squared – Chris Snodgrass & Cameron Mack
How to integrate Google Maps into a personal webpage
For this usability test we would like to test the instructions that we have created to integrate Google Maps into a blank personal webpage that is created in Dreamweaver. Please read the directions carefully and follow them as described. Then answer the questions so we may determine the effectiveness of our instruction set.
Questions:
1. Please open Dreamweaver.
a. Was it easy to find Dreamweaver within the start menu?
2. Create a new HTML page and find the code entry screen.
a. Did you find the shortcut on the title screen?
b. Did you have problems finding where the coding was?
3. Delete pre inserted code and enter first snippet of code and change the title in the title bar. Press F12 to see new title.
a. Was it clear how and where to enter the code?
b. Did you experience any issues with changing the title?
4. Enter second snippet of Code – The code that downloads the maps from Google’s server.
a. Did you have any problems entering this section of code?
b. Was it clear how to change the center location and zoom level?
5. Enter the third snippet of code – The code that loads the map and specifies the size. Press F12 and Open in your browser.
a. Did you have any problems entering this section of code?
b. Did you understand how to change the size of the map?
c. Did your map open correctly in the web browser?
d. Did you map look like the example in the instructions?
6. Please add the Large Map Control, Map Overview Control, and Map Type Control to your map. View by pressing F12.
a. Was it clear where this code was to be entered?
b. Did your map include these controls?
7. Would you consider it easy to create a webpage with Google Maps?
8. Did you think the instructions were straight forward? Did any not make sense?
9. Did you find the screen shots and illustrations helpful?
Concerns:
While entering code into Dreamweaver may seem straight forward, it can be easy to leave out one character or put one in the wrong place. Also, when viewing the page some web browsers may not allow this to happen because it blocks some active x. We did not include steps to turn this off or include the work around.
We are hoping to find what users have problems with and how we may be able to expand or explain more by inviting feedback through this usability test.
