Project Assessment Document

Here is my project assessment document.
Project Assessment Document
Writing in Context:
In Step 2 of the Employment
Project we were asked to write a cover letter for the job we were applying
for. The particular job I chose (project
manager) definitely changed the way I wrote my letter. I made sure to focus on the skills that are required
for a project manager. However, this
particular job did not really affect how I presented myself. No matter what position I am applying for, I
want to come across the same way. The
same personal characteristics apply to any job that I am seeking. The specific skills required for a certain
job is what changes based on that job. I
am also in a unique situation because I had an internship with this company in
the past. However, I am applying for a
full-time, and also a better position.
Because I already have a background with this company, I know what
skills they are looking for associated with the open position.
Project Management:
The most challenging document
to produce was the cover letter. I
definitely struggled at times to complete this step of the project. I had a hard time finding the write wording
in order to persuade a company to hire me.
It always seemed as though I was talking myself up too much. I understand that you want to “sell” yourself
to a potential employer, but it was hard to draw the line between persuading
and flat out bragging. I never really
like to say good things about myself. I
made a huge revision to my initial draft in the persuasion part of the
letter. In my initial draft, I didn’t do
much persuading. No employer would be
impressed with my initial draft. I
changed this section to focus on some of my strengths and qualities that
pertain to the job I am applying for.
Research:
I found Monster.com to be the
most beneficial resource for my project.
I have a lot of experience with this web site, and it was easy for me to
use. I tried to search the web for job
ads, however, I did not have much success.
I didn’t learn much about the position I was applying for because I
already have a lot of experience in the field.
I had a good idea of the skills and requirements necessary for this
particular job.
Teamwork:
Peer feedback was beneficial
to me, and I believe that it is a very useful and helpful tool. It gives everyone a chance to comment on each
others projects, and this obviously helps everyone correct their mistakes. Unfortunately, I did not get much feedback on
my project. Although, the comments I did
receive were very helpful. Responding to
the work of others, put me in the mindset to revise my own original drafts. By viewing the mistakes of others, it is
easier to see the mistakes that I made on my own project.
Document Design:
The most effective aspect of
my deliverables was the design of my cover letter and also the design of my
resume. I felt that I was very specific
to the job I was applying for. I made
sure to focus on the specific skills that are required for the open
position. Also, I wanted to make sure my
resume was consistent with my cover letter.
I believe that both are what this open position is looking for.
