2. Volunteer Lab assistant for intro
level ECET courses.
3. None
4. My most valuable courses have
been all of my electronics courses since they have provided me with a toolbox
of engineering abilities that will help me in the field I wish to enter.
5. No scholarships.
6. A skill that is unique to me, is
my ability to be able to look at a circuit and have an intuitive understanding
of its physical and mathematical behavior before I start to analyze it. This is
very handy to have in my toolbox for ECET because almost everything we do
involves analyzing circuits. Another skill I have is that I'm very cultured, I
have the ability to interact with a plethora of different sorts of people which
is very important in the job market.

at home. I've taken 4 years in high school.
8. I have a great number of computer
skills that I had to know and learn for my first job. I understand how to
upgrade hardware, build complete systems, install operating systems. I know
embedded C, and Visual C#. On the technical side I can use Multisim and OrCad.
9. I'm currently working with a very
expensive development board for research in the EET department, I also build
computers, servers, and I do a lot of work with cars (both wiring and engine
work).

Scope of
Responsibilities/Expectations
The intern will join a team of 30 engineers working on the integration of
technologies such as DVB-H and NFC into a Motorola mobile terminal in order to
provide new user experiences.
The goal of this internship is both to develop low level drivers on Linux and
to design, develop and test a PCB/Flex board that will be integrated on a
prototype phone.
The intern will contribute to:
- the definition of the system architecture
- the development of a PCB/Flex board
- the definition of the test cases
- the SW development and SW/HW integration of the board in the mobile terminal
- the validation of the PCB/Flex board
- the execution of the tests cases previously defined
- the integration of the PCB in the prototype
This internship will allow the student to acquire the basic knowledge of a
Top-Bottom EE design and Software/Hardware integration. It will also give him
an insight on the fabrication process of a phone.
He/she will be fully involved in the different stages of the mobile TV project
(requirements analysis, design, code generation, test and validation).

Reflection
I would apply to the first ad
listed.
1. I chose this ad
because my grandfather has repaired radios all of his life and exclusively uses
Motorola. This prompted me to check out their site and see if I could
pursue a career there. I came across this ad and I thought it fit my
skills perfectly. I am a ham radio operator so I have very strong RF
skills. I am specializing in embedded system design in EET, and I have
done a lot of design using the software packages they listed. I also have
good embedded C programming skills.
2. I'm not sure
how long it has been posted, but it was just emailed to me by Motorola this
week, so it is still active and probably new.
3. The company is
in Toulouse France, and yes I'd be more than willing to go to France.
4. I love Europe,
there's so much history there. It would be nice to get a different perspective
on the world as well as work with people from other cultures as well. I
think it would make me a much more rounded person.
Job Ad Analysis
1. Good problem
solving, C coding, embedded skills, schematic capture skills, RF knowledge.
2. I do RF as a hobby,
and I'm specializing in embedded design so I'm very passionate about the skill
sets that Motorola is looking for. I don't only have the knowledge, but I
like to do it.
3.
Your prospective employer (list)
You (paragraphs)
Good Problem Solving
The technology program at Purdue
is well known for teaching problem solving skills. We aren't spoon-fed
material, and in the projects courses we merely have an objective. Our
senior design requires intensive problem solving skills to complete
successfully.
C Coding
I have been doing C programming
for several years. Over the recent years at Purdue I've done several
electives in embedded C, as well as the visual languages such as C#. By
regularly using these languages I've built up a very good ability to use them
fluently.
Embedded Skills
As I mentioned before I am
specializing in embedded systems design. It is my favorite area of EET,
and it is a passion of mine. I can bring the passion to job and really
create solutions that are above and beyond what is called for.
Schematic Capture Skills
I've been through several design
classes in EET and all of them have used the Cadence OrCAD package which is
the industry standard package. I've become very skilled with it, and
could use it quickly and efficiently.
RF Knowledge
Since I'm a ham radio operator,
I've been around RF concepts and equipment for a long time. It's
another field of EET that I really enjoy and readily work with as a
hobby.
History of the Company / Organization
1. I've been very
familiar with Motorola through my grandfather who works with thier
radios. I've also owned cell phone and radio products from them.
2.
www.motorola.com
3. Motorola USA is
dedicated to achieving market leadership in the USA and contributing to
worldwide new product development. We will accomplish this by placing the
customer first, by providing opportunities to our employees to contribute and
grow, and by developing new and innovative partnerships.
4. Innovation,
passion, diverse, enthusiasm.
5. Motorola started in
the great depression when Paul Galvin started Galvin Manufacturing Corporation
to make the first car radio. After some tough times, he and his brother
were able to make a successful car radio. Galvin wanted to name the
company something memorable and he chose Motorola to sound like rolling music
on a motor car. After several years in the radio business, Motorola went
on to pioneer the first radio carphone and eventually the first cellular phone.
6. I feel that
company really values passion and innovation as do I. I think that they
are really looking for outside of the box thinking. This is evident by their
history, as putting a radio or phone in a car at those times seemed outlandish.
7. Yes.
8. My grandfather
doesn't work there, but exclusively has used their radios for 50 some years.
