Project Log

This week (week 14), Team Google got alot of stuff done for Project 3.  Monday, we had to write up a proposal for project 3, and jeseger took care of this.  We had in mind exactly what we were to do for the project, so it was a pretty easy proposal for jeseger to write.  In addition to submitting the proposal draft on Monday, We met on Thursday to discuss the rest of the project.  I was not able to make it due to work, but my roommate jeseger filled me in on the details.  During the meeting, they revised our proposal and submitted the final revision.  They also talked about what was coming up and how they were to combat it.

Project Work Plan

To finish the project Jon and I have some revisions to make.  As I said stated previously, these revisions were made from feedback given to us by our peers.  Using the feedback, which was very helpful, we were able to make and still need to make some of the following changes:

Project Log Week 11

This past week Jon and I made several revisions to both our illustrated instructions draft and also to our Usability test.  The corrections that we made were due to a couple different reasons.  The main reason we made changes was as a result of the feedback that we received from our blog post that included the instructions draft and the usability test.  We got some useful feedback that helped make our instructions even better.  The secondary reason that we made changes to our instructions and usability test was from our own read-through of the two documents.  As we read through the documents to make changes suggested by the peer review, we caught a few more mistakes that we were able to fix also.  It has worked out well.

Jeseger, the other member of team Yatta, has posted both of these documents.

This weeks completed tasks included the completion of individual drafts for the illustrated instructions, an initial set of questions for the usability test, and an assembling of the individual drafts into a single illustrated instructions document.  For the individual drafts of the illustrated instructions, we took the outline of steps that we had decided the previous week and designated a half way point, and Jon took the first half of the instructions while I took the last half of the instructions.  For the usability test, questions were thought of that would be helpful for us to have answers to in order to be able to improve the usability of our instructions.  The last accomplishment of the week was to merge the two individual drafts that we completed.  This was done in the computer lab, and a couple hours were spent editing to make sure the instructions had a good flow.

Week 8 Project Log

Week 8 accomplishments include:

  •  At the beginning of the week, Jon and I sat down and discussed ideas for the illustrated instructions.  Since Jon and I are both Mechanical Engineers, we thought I would be good to use an engineering software and create some simple instructions.  The main idea that we ended up deciding upon was to use the program Pro-Engineer (a CAD modeling program) to create a simple object.  CAD stands for Computer Aided Design.
  • On Tuesday, Jon and I chatted with Kevin about our ideas.  The main questions that we had were about the number of steps allowable for the project, and we discovered that 25 is a minimum, but we probably do not want to exceed 25 by too much.
  • Other accomplishments include the definitions of Jon and I's roles in the team.  Jon and I now have a clearer idea of what each of us will be trying to accomplish over the next couple of weeks as we work on the project.
