Project Log

This past week I learned about how to use Macromedia Captivate.  Adobe Captivate was not available on ITAP machines but using Macromedia Captivate I was able to generate most of the multimedia Presentation.  I recorded the sound in the DLC located in the basement of Hicks Library where I could borrow a microphone from the library compatible with ITAP computers.  I completed about 2/3 of the presentation and ran into a snag.  Seth met with me on Wednesday evening and we spent a couple hours working out some of the problems that I was having.  I was able to post the draft of the multimedia presentation online after we finished the initial run through.  This next week I will make any changes I can that are suggested by my group and/or the rest of the class.

This week I learned about Adobe Captivate.  This program seems like it
will be an integral part of our user guide for the creation of a Facebook
group.  The ability to record screen movement and provide voiceover will
definitely enhance our guide.  Captivate will also allow for us to perform
our usability test concurrently with the presentation of information.

This week I collected information from a couple of my group members
regarding their individual usability test. I used this information to produce
the usability report. For this next week, I will help work on the
user-guide multimedia presentation by transferring what we have on how to
create a Facebook group in the Word document to Adobe Captivate.

Week 14 - Project Log

This past week we were able to identify the client for the project. We attempted to sell the idea of helping them in the instruction of MATLAB coding but were told that what could be useful was to have a Facebook interface with the student population.  This interface is desirable in that more and more students are spending time on Facebook and use this medium for social networking and disseminating information.  Since then we have completely switched gears and have written a proposal outlining the specifics of the client based user guide.  I drafted a start to this proposal along with individually drafting a Usability test related to Facebook group creation including questions that are specific to the client’s needs.

Week 13 - Project Log - Scheidt

This week, we decided on a team name and discussed possible subjects for project 3.  One of the ideas involves a Homeless Men’s Outreach center in Benton Harbor Michigan.  This organization gives homeless men a chance to earn an income by refurbishing donated furniture that can be sold.  Not only would it be nice to find a way to boost awareness of the organization, we could develop a way to market the refurbished furniture to a larger audience through the internet which could lead to a higher return on the sale of the furniture.  A website that we considered using for this task was eBay.  We are currently gathering information from the organizational leadership to see if there is an interest or if they are willing to work with us on this project.
