Reading Blog- Week 12 (Kristin Shrack)

This week I read pages 188-200 in CDA. I really enjoyed reading about the "ethos in writing" portion on pages 192-193. We are learning about this in many of my classes right now. I think that ethos is a very important part of writing. Ethos is the way you write that appeal to the readers ethics. It has a lot to do with values and just the overall way that a writing presents themself. At the beginning of this part, they talk about how what you wear for different things says something about yourself. You can wear business suit to work and a workout outfit to the gym, but how different would a fellow employee perceive you if you came to work in your workout outfit?
I think these are all important factors that play a role when you are speaking or writing. Automatically, the reader will be able to perceive the writer through his/her tone and ethical appeal.
I think this is very important when writing.

In my opinion ethos in

In my opinion ethos in general is the most influential thing in our society today. All of the stereotypes currently known were based on ethos in the beginning. Like Kristin was saying, if you wear different clothes to different things people are going to think differently of you. But what if your religion says to wear a certain attire all of the time?
For example, if an Arab came into to the gym to work out and looked like everyone else except the turbin around his head, your view of him will change drastically. Your mind will sway from the fact that he is just another person in the gym doing the same thing you are; you may start to think of how different he is than you.
In writing, how you portray yourself is who the reader will define you as. You might be an excellent romance author but if the reader looks at the back cover of the book and you are dressed like you are going to murder someone, will they be as inclined to read?
