Cat Reads

The reading for this week really calls on you to be creative when your researching. I know that when I'm finding material for my papers whether I'm on internet or in a library I always get bored. I would only do interviews or movies if the project actually called for me to do so, and I remembered that those were always my favorite kinds of projects. This chapter reminds me that research doesn't always have to be tedious, boring, and stressful, but it can also sometimes be fun and involving. You just have to figure out what ways are the most fun for you.

Comfort zones

Cat, I agree, and I think this has a lot to do with comfort zones. Often, it's hard for us to do interviews and action research because it requires us to put ourselves "out there." It requires us to talk to others, to get up and out into the world, and when the alternative is sticking our noses in books, sometimes the latter sounds more appealing. I think this is an odd phenomenon -- some of my most outgoing students resist action research because they're "too shy about it." I wonder why we hear "research" and automatically want to go straight to the library because it's maybe more comfortable, or at least less intimidating. Ideas?
