Below, provide a link to one of ZeFrank's videos. Then, analyze this video. Who is it targeting? What is its overall message, and what are its subpoints? How does the design of the video influence the message? Give any other impressions you might have had as well.
"Waves"
http://www.zefrank.com/theshow/archives/2007/02/020507.html
This ZeFrank video uses an incredibly complex metaphor to analyze the trends and tendencies of our society. ZeFrank compares the overarching tendencies of our society to "waves." At first, this video sounds like a relatively -- and by relatively I mean completely -- pointless rant about the beach and childrens' sandcastles. However, by the time ZeFrank is finished, he has said something profound about who we are as a society, and goes so far as to break our society into separate subgroups. Each trend is a "wave;" it takes over our psyches and, of course, our sandcastles. The surfers are "examiners of the wave." They study it, but do not become a part of it. Others try to overcome "the wave," or think they have created "the wave." These people are actually owned by the wave... they are susceptible to its idiosyncracies.
I believe this video targets Americans who buy into trends a bit too easily. It might also target subcultures by appealing to their already-present logic.
Vegas Baby (Paige and Kristin S)
http://www.zefrank.com/theshow/archives/2006/06/061406.html
This video was about context. ZeFrank uses the city of Las Vegas to explain the ideas of context. He starts by talking about flying on a plane. One time, while flying on a plane, they served him a pig in the form of ham. He went onto say that just like he was out of context, being hundreds of thousands of feet up in the air, the pig was also out of context- because pigs don't belong on a plane.
Then, he talked about Vegas. He said that almost everything in Vegas is out of context because it didn't orginiate there. Instead, it had to be brought in from other places. Like the rocks, the water (because its a desert), the plants, the buildings.
At the end he said that they mirror- like buildings are not showing the true image, but are reflecting the sun. Instead, when you look into a true mirror, your image becomes imbedded in the mirror.
This is all dealing with context. An egyptian look alike builing has a different context in Las Vegas than it does in Egypt.

In beginning of this video, he is talking about myspace and how manipulative it can be in shaping people's minds. Other than that, we have no idea what to say or how to analyze this!
anti-intellectualism (Becca and Ethan)
http://www.zefrank.com/theshow/archives/2006/05/050506.html
The deeper message of this video is how we're a culture based highly on not thinking. We plan on raising ages on Myspace to make it a safer place... but want to block material inappropriate for children? How many children are over the age of 18?!?!?! Also, we're intelligent enough that we're worried about our own demise caused by an astroid hitting the earth, but goofy enough that we play the lottery while we have a better chance of getting destroyed by an astroid then winning the lottery. This video caught how we're intelligent, and technology-capable, but at the same time we're ignorant to our own capabilities and in our thought process.
Red Alert, Ben Colbrese, Luke Gordon
http://www.zefrank.com/redalert/
This zeFrank video is a mockumentry on the terror alert level used by our government.
This video appears to be targeting people who are politically informed, but also all those who know about the color coded alert system implemented by homeland security. The overall message of this video is that the terrorist alert system does nothing to serve the citzens of this country short of scaring them. One of the subpoints is that while the alert system does give citzens a level of fear to hold, it does not give them any instructions on how to protect themselves or avoid an impending attack. In the video Frank pretends to be a worker for homeland security, although it appears he is of little inteligence. This design mocks homeland security and our government, furthering Franks overall point.
The video was really witty and quick. Overall we thought it was well done and made good points.
Anti-Intellectualism (Greg & Mike)
http://www.zefrank.com/theshow/archives/2006/05/050506.html
The show goes ahead and talks mostly about ignorance and if it is okay to be ignorant. For the most part he does some crazy and kind of weird scenes making fun of a comment that he got from a fan of his show. He goes ahead and talks about how there are people out there that would try to censor myspace from teens under eighteen. He tries to go and show how keeping the public in the dark is okay. The idea that if you don't know it, it won't hurt you. He targets the general public as his audience to bring awareness of this societal issue.
The 10 stages of ICEC
http://www.zefrank.com/theshow/archives/2006/08/081706.html
This video is targeting anyone with a minor to serious illness who may want to express how they are feeling to other people. The overall message is to display ten different "stages" of being sick and communicating/exaggerating that to the world around you. He is trying to show how people can use different excuses to get out of things just by pretending to be ill. It is very similar to reality because people do this all the time when they don't want to do something. However, it is exaggerated, but not quite as much as you may imagine. Because it is primarily focused on his face, you don't have too many distractions and your attention is on only what he is saying. The fact that he jumps around is interesting because it keeps the audience's mind interested and alert.
Snake and Cages
http://www.zefrank.com/theshow/archives/2006/12/120506.html
This "the show" was in response to him being asked if he wore either boxers or briefs. This particular show is targeting men because they are only talking about mens underwear and the benefits of wearing each kind. The point of the show is to make fun of the question "boxers or briefs" and making an entire show about the history and function of either the two. the design of the video makes it funnier becuase he shows little pictures and clips that emphasize his point, for example the myspace picture in the background of a guy in a man thong. This video is not only halarious but informative about the uses of mens undies.
This video is titled "brain
This video is titled "brain crack", it was appealing to me. He first starts off by making fun of the horrible design features of his hotel room and its quite hysterical because it's a hideous room. He goes on answering a question that asks if he has "lost his ideas", i don't know if he is offended but he ends off in a song about where ideas come from. The video is well designed, the man speaks very fast so you have to interpret it very fast.
"Brain Crack"
Zefrank, in this video, describes and looks at ideas. How some people don't ever follow through with them, no matter how stupid they are.
The end of the video concludes with a video stating, "where the f*** do ideas come from."
