Before Wednesday complete:

  • Student information form (attached below) and e-mail it to me at mhannah@purdue.edu
  • Your class introduction (post to your personal blog)
  • Make certain that you have your login and password for accessing Purdue ITaP machines and an e-mail address that accommodates attachments. If you have questions about your accounts, you can visit the ITap Customer Service Center in STEW 068. You can also visit the ITaP Instructional Computing Division web page <http://www.itap.purdue.edu/tlt/help/> for information about campus technologies.
  • Purchase The Thomson Handbook at Follett's or University Bookstore.

Wednesday

  • Using the Course Site
  • Introduction to rhetoric in business writing
  • 420 Rhetoric Exercise -- Responding Rhetorically (attached below).

Before Friday complete:

  • Read The Thomson Handbook "Chapter 1: Writing and Rhetoric in Context" and "Chapter 27: Reading and Writing Email Purposefully."
  • Read "A Primer"

Friday

  • Discuss email etiquette and its rhetorical implications.
  • Email etiquette activity.
  • Review email guidelines
  • Read Washington Post article about Rep. Mark Foley.

For Monday:

  • Read The Thomson Handbook "Chapter 28: Networking with Others on the Web."
  • Complete Reading Response 1 by 5 p.m. on Sunday, January 13 and respond to two of your classmates' posts by noon on Monday, January 14.
  • Read the Employment Project prompt (under "Projects" on this site) and come to class prepared with questions about the project.
