English 420, Business Writing

Last week, I created the advertisement flyer and the banner/sign to be display on the window of the hairshop. Using Illustrator and Photoshop, I created 2 design for each flyer and banner; doing this way will give our client two options to choose from.

This week we have laid out our plans. We are producing a advertising pack to give to Henni. In our pack we will offering a advertising layout that she can use for a newspaper ad in the future. We are going to be focusing the ad on her skill level over the other chains. We will also be producing a better business card for her. Her current card is bland and doesn't have any map to show where her shop is located. We will be fixing these problems that we noticed and present her with our new plan. It will be up to her to decide if she chooses to use our layouts.

Last week we met with the Professor to talk about the groups responsibilities for this project. It seems like our client is unsure in what she wants for this service learning project, so during the meeting we brain storm on ideals that we can do for her. We came up with four or five ideals to help advertise the hair shop. I am responsible for the flyer. That’s about it until we meet next week.

For the second week of the service learning project, we wrote the contract for Henni’s Hair shop. That pretty all I can recall from week two, since we did not have class Wednesday or Friday.

This is our Service Learning Contract.

Last week, our group decided to go with two candidates Café Royal and Henni’s Hair shop. After further discussion we decided that Café Royal wasn’t the right place to work for and went with Henni’s Hair shop. Since Alex knows the people who work there, he will set up a meet to talk with the owner.

This week for our service learning project we have narrowed our selections down to two companies, Cafe Royale, and Henni Haircutters. We first spoke to a few ladies at Cafe Royale and asked them if we could help them with their advertising for finals week, in regards to their extended hours. However they were polite but basically told us that they did not need any help. We then went to Henni Haircutters and met with the owner. She has had previous 420 groups help her before so she was familiar with the process.

We got a little late start on our service learning project. We had some problems with our original idea of Cafe Royal. We have changed course and are going to do something with Henni's Hair shop. We meet with her last night and got a verbal agreement to commit to the service learning project. We have a meeting with her tonight at 8pm to discuss what she wants done. We plan on finishing our contract and having Henni sign it tonight. She said last night that she wanted to think about it tonight, and let us know specifically what she wanted us to do.
