English 420, Business Writing

This last week of work for the white paper project was focused on final revisions of the white paper as well as preparing our group presentation of our technology recommendations for Knight Corporation. We met after class on Monday and used that time to get our presentation organized as well as continue editing on our white paper, concentrating on the design aspect of the final paper. My main focus was breaking up my section of writing for the white paper by making a table comparing the four PDAs that I am suggesting that Knight Corporation choose from.

This week we spent our time focusing on our presentation and finishing up the final copy of the white paper. After receiving our rough draft last week we each made several alterations to our parts in order to better meet the suggestions and ‘criticisms’ of the professor. On Monday after class we worked a little more on the ideas for our presentation as well as discussed improvements to the white paper. On Tuesday night the majority of us met to create and finish our presentation as well as create and finish the pamphlet for our presentation on Wednesday.

The week before Spring Break was a busy one for the technology team. We gave our presentation on Movie Maker on Monday, which went well. We really got a good grasp on the program in our group meetings and were able to run through the presentation just as we had practiced it. After we gave the presentation we switched our focus back to the white paper and worked really hard to complete the rough draft for Friday. Everyone in the team did a good job getting their individual parts completed which allowed us to work on piecing the paper together on Wednesday.

Our technology presentation went very well last Monday despite not having talked about it in a week since we were originally planning on giving it the Tuesday before. I think we took our time to show people a little more of the program and showed them how they could get to an end product effectively. Our presentation took us about fifteen minutes to do which was right on track with our goal. We were also able to answer the questions the class posed to us very well on Windows MovieMaker. I fell that we really knew our stuff on that topic.

Last week our team met and continued to work on our white paper. Monday we presented our technology presentation over Windows Movie Maker that was postponed from last Wednesday. Also on Monday I had finished all of my research about wireless laptops and it was sent to each member. I discovered what areas I needed to look at in determining the best brand and model for Knight Corporation’s needs. I decided upon one that was listed as ‘best business laptop’ by several online guides and documented all the features that it had.

At the beginning of this week we decided on the subjects that each group member was going to be covering, and began writing each section individually so we could concentrate on design elements and meshing all the parts together this week coming up. Myself and Nathan met with Mr. Hannah on Thursday and had a good talk about expanding on the technologies that we have decided on to show Knight Corporation how each technology will make them better compatable with other companies that they will be doing business with.

During this previous week our group met to prepare for our techonology presentation involving Windows Movie Maker. We had previously prepared what material we wanted to cover in the presentation. This week we met and actually did a couple practice run-throughs. Everyone knows what they are talking about, but since we have not met due to class cancellation, it may be a little bumpy during the presentation on Monday. I don't think it will play a huge roll in our grade, but might contribute to the fluidity of the presentation.

We prepared for our technology presentation at the beginning of the week. We practiced it in the classroom we usually have class in, so we would prepared to work with the technology that is in the classroom. I am a little worried about the quality of our presentation suffering since we are now going many days after we practiced and some people might have forgotten what they were going to do.

The fist half of this week the group was focused on our technology presentation and finding additional sources for our paper. For our technology presentation we met on Tuesday evening and practiced exactly what we were going to say and in what order on Wednesday. We later learned that it was postponed until Monday and went right on to working on our paper.

This week we met twice as a group to discuss and design our technology project that we will be presenting on Wednesday this week. In these meetings our group got our presentation organization completed as well as our powerpoint. We also finished the pamphlet for the presentation and found a great step-by-step instruction guide for Movie Maker online.
