English 420, Business Writing

This week, our group worked very hard on our white paper. At the start of this week, we meet in Grisom to work on getting everything organized. During this meeting, we were able to come up with our introduction as well as make changes to stuff we had previously written. The changes we made were to give more support to the ideas that we had presented throughout our draft. For example, I wrote about using cars.com. In the rough draft, I mentioned cars.com and posted a screenshot of their website. So, on Monday, I wrote supporting statements as to why cars.com was so important.

This week we continued to edit our paper. Josh and I met on Wednesday and we all met on Thursday to work on the paper, edit the presentation, and finish the handout. On Wednesday, Josh wrote the introduction and we put our parts together. We also changed the format of the paper and added in subtitles to make it more organized. We included advantages and disadvantages to each option.

I did not think we needed to do another worklog entry because we were originally only supposed to do four, but I did one just in case.

We got the rough draft of the paper back this week and we started revising it. We created the three options individually and then put them together so the paper is not cohesive. We have to include an introduction and more of a conclusion. We also have to support our claims by tying it back to the company profile. To make the paper flow better, we have to include more transitions and tweak the language a bit.

On Monday we got started on the Service Learning Project. We wrote the group deliverable one for the project and decided that our best idea was to contact the Egyptian Hookah Bar on Northwestern.

The week before Spring Break our group met and worked on the paper. We divided the work up so that each person had something different to research and write about. Catherine worked on the advertising website option and Josh worked on creating the website in-house option. I worked on the outsourcing option. I included things like cost, pros and cons to the option. I also have the reader some information about how to choose a company that did that kind of work (what to look for basically).

We completed the rough draft of the white paper before spring break. Each of us wrote a part of the paper and everyone emailed their part to me. Thursday night, I put it all together to turn in on Friday. Our format is a basic two columns so that it is easy to read. We chose a format that includes a icon to represent Knight Corporation because we think that it looks more professional. Pictures are evenly distributed from page to page. One thing we need to work on is our font. Since each member typed one page the fonts do not match in size or style.

This week, our group has come a long way. At the start of this week, we did our technology projects. Although ours was a very dry topic, I think the information presented in it was beneficial to the class. Aside from the technology project, our group finally decided on what three things to present in our white paper. First, we thought that it would be best to show Knight Corporation what they could do with a fully functional online sales website. The second thing that we thought about doing was showing Knight what they could do with a website that was solely dedicated to advertising.

On Monday, we did our technology presentation.

During the rest of the week we researched more about our project and decided what parts we are going to include in our three options of the paper. We also started writing a little bit so that we had some writing to present on Friday for our group meeting.

Hey! Here is what I have so far for the White Paper (attached).

Monday our group gave our technology presentation on Dream Weaver. We had met over the weekend to do a quick run through and create a handout for the class. At the end of class on Monday we decided our three solutions we will discuss in the white paper. The three solutions are as follows:
1. We will suggest that the Knight corporation should not use only sales. Online sales would be very difficult to set up. It could cause a major loss of money if not successful. Also, online customers would have to come in anyway so it would be easier for them to come in and get exactly what they need.
