Week 15 Service Learning Project Update

Although for this week, we were supposed to have everything done by Friday (4/18), our client wanted to postpone the due date and meet us on Monday (4/21) because they are busy on Fridays and he did not want to get distracted. Due to the changes, we were able to revise and update more information for our project.

Matt contacted both the Campus Special and College Coupon once again, so that he could get more detailed information. The Campus Special did not give him detailed pricing information, just a rough estimate around $300 for the first coupon per semester. The College Coupon's sales representative was very helpful and detailed. They sent him their pricing schedule for the coupon booklet in West Lafayette, their coupons start just under $400. After finishing his rough draft of the coupon booklet information, he showed it to his group and Mr. Hannah, and finished the formatting changes.

This week Steve finished his research on the Exponent and how to go about
advertising with student organizations. Although expensive, the Exponent is one
of the easiest ways to reach the student body. About 87% of students see the
paper on a daily basis, so this is a good way for a new business to reach a
large audience. He was able to find costs, deadlines, and other policies the
restaurant will need to advertise with the paper.

In addition, he worked with Sam Killerman of the Student Orientation Committee
has found the application for this year’s Boiler Gold Rush Business and
Activity Fair. We are able to provide Hungry’s demographic information about
the event and deadlines for registering. We feel this will be another important
event since about 35 businesses participated last year. This is one of the
first experiences new students have with many local businesses, so reaching
them as a freshman could mean four years of continued patronage.

Joey revised his work and worked on the design of the promotions that Hungry's can make. Even though our client did not want us to make a design for advertising materials (cups, coupons) because there are professionals who do that, Joey still worked on it so that we have enough amount of work completed for this project for our class purposes. We mainly used websites that makes cups and magnets, used their information, and used photoshop and InDesign for the designs. The logos are not the one that Hungry's use because our client did not want to give it out.

I (Tae) continued to work on how to advertise in residence halls. I contacted Smalley Center for more information and was able to get University Residences Summary For 2007-2008. It basically divides the number of students by class, gender, and ethnicity. Although it does not show statistics for each hall, this can help the client to decided where to focus more when distributing their flyers. I also found each residence hall's address and searched them on Mapquest to figure out the estimated distance between Hungry's and each hall. With all the information combined, the client will be able to come up with improved advertising method.

On Sunday (4/20) we met in Krannert computer lab and discussed shortly about the presentation. Steve is going to put everything together in one style so it looks consistent and neat. We practiced few times roughly to see the flow of the presentation. After few more practices individually, we should be good for our presentation tomorrow
