Service Learning Blog 2![]() This week, we finally were able to meet and talk with Shannon White, the Executive Director at the YWCA. Our original proposal included making flyers and promoting the Y-Dance recital in May. However, since it is coming up so soon, she had already had people working on everything for that. Then, she brought up more ideas. She really wanted us to brainstorm on ways to get people involved with the YWCA, especially volunteers that have special hobbies that could teach children to play the piano, dance, etc. This is when she mentioned that they will be starting an after school program in the fall. From here, we decided it would be a great idea to promote the Y on campus. We will be creating brochures and pamphlets that potential volunteers can fill out and return in the mail. She also mentioned making one a digital copy that could be filled out and sent in e-mail. Another thing Shannon would like us to do is make a Facebook page that could be updated regularly. This would help get the word out to Purdue students about upcoming events and volunteering opportunities. After the meeting, Jamie wrote up the formal contract for Shannon. She is going to be out of town for the next week, but said she could sign it electronically. Although our service learning project started out slowly and shaky, we are now on a path that we can start making rough drafts for Shannon. We think we are doing a great thing, and Shannon is also very excited to work with us. We will be meeting as a group tomorrow to start on the rough drafts.
