English 420, Business Writing

On Monday last week, we got started on the Service Learning Project. We wrote the group deliverable one for the project and decided that our best idea was to contact the Egyptian Hookah Bar on Northwestern.

On Friday last week, we decided that we were going to use our class time to go to the Egyptian because our schedules are so different and it is difficult to find time to meet with everyone present. When we got there, one of the managers said that the owner would be in later, so we went back later. The owner was not there when we went in and so we decided that maybe we could come in on Saturday or Sunday. Although we did not get to speak to the owner, the managers sounded really interested in what we had to offer. They also said that they think the owner would be interested in working with us.

I went to the Egyptian on Wednesday and set up a meeting for Thursday. We talked to the owner, Maisa, about the project and she was interested in promoting their lunch menu. We decided that we would make flyers to promote the lunch and flyers to promote grand prix specials. She also wanted business cards for her and the other owner. We told her that we had to get everything approved by the instructor and would be back to show her the contract with the tentative deadlines.

The group met after our meeting with Maisa and wrote the Proposal. We set up some deadlines for ourselves and got it approved on Sunday. This week we are going to get the document signed by Maisa, talk to her about the deadlines, and start on the flyers to promote the lunch menu. She wants us to highlight the salads and sandwiches. She also wanted us to list the general information about the Egyptian like the hours and location.

She gave us a copy of the menu and the website address, so we are going to start looking over those documents. We are also going to conduct some research on the audience (which is Purdue students) and The Egyptian’s competition- Hookah Bar.
