Work Blog #6

We gave our White Paper presentation on Monday. Aside from forgetting to pass out the handouts and my typical nervousness it the presentation went smoothly. The review seemed to understand our options and we fielded their questions well.

Having completed the composition portion of the white paper, this week focused on proof-reading and finalizing. Tabby wrote an introduction and conclusion and I added them to the rest of the paper with the proper formatting. I also added a number of graphics that Evan found to help break up the page and illustrate our points to the readers. Because the paper is on my flash drive and I have a color printer, I agreed to make the final changes and add details before printing the finished paper. I added a cover page and composed the bibliography. In making these changes, however, I encountered a small capability problem. We had been working on the paper on a MAC but I have a PC and therefore the printer is connected to a PC. Office 2007 no longer has one of the fonts we decided to use so I had to make a slight change in that. However, I was sure to maintain the same design scheme throughout and make sure that the design followed the CRAP policy we learned about earlier in the semester.

Because we had finished the largest portion of work for the White Paper, we spent the second half of the week (mainly Friday) working on the Service Learning Project. Tabby and I met with the manager at Boiler Market to outline what he is looking for in the brochure and to verify what he wants the brochure to do for the restaurant. After our meeting we wrote most of the proposal/contract. Tabby agreed to finish this and have this signed for Monday.

I said the same thing about the handouts! I didn't know that there was a problem with the fonts being compatible, I did not even notice when I looked at the finished whitepaper.
