This week we started our service learning project for Boiler Market. Boiler Market is a restaurant located on campus that also features alcoholic beverages, jazz music and catering services. On Friday, Matt and I met with Ben, the Manager, and discussed what he was looking for out of this project. He told us we would like a tri-fold pamphlet that highlighted the atmosphere, custom catering services, and also some of the more popular menu items that Boiler Market features. He also said he would supply the pictures that he would like us to use for the project. We agreed that we would begin the pamphlet and bring in an updated copy each week for him to look at. This would let us touch base and figure out exactly what our client liked and did not like, so we could make changes accordingly. This would ensure that the client is satisfied with our product.
Matt and I then spent the rest of the afternoon drafting two proposal copies- one for our client and one for class. Our client copy was more concise and easier to read, while the copy for class was more detail-orientated surrounding the class deliverables. We also discussed good times for us to meet with Ben on a weekly basis. Matt and I also thought we would try to use In Design for the tri-fold pamphlet we wanted to make. We also talked about making an instructional file so Boiler Market could adjust the pamphlet as their business plans change. However, we forgot to inquire as to what the technology options available to Boiler Market were, so we will hold off on using any specific program until we find this information out sometime later this week. Lastly, I agreed to post this first week’s blog, and we will be rotating here after.
