March 16 Workblog![]() Our group spent the week before Spring Break writing and researching our rough draft for the White Paper. I was responsible for the introduction and our idea for developing a recruiting strategy. One of the advantages Knight Corporation has over competitors is how much it pays its employees compared to the average for the area. In researching Southern Indiana, I found the average salary is about $13,000 less than what Knight Corporation pays. Another advantage in recruiting is the average age of the city of New Albany is 36 and more than 1,500 are actively seeking employment. This means the company can be selective as it looks to replace employees nearing retirement age. Having a relatively young group seeking employment will also benefit the company since it will spread out when employees are ready to retire. The company is very top-heavy right now and mixing some entry-level graduates with some relatively young, but experienced hires will provide the company with a good strategy for succession. It will also be important for the company to analyze its current positions so it knows who it should recruit and what those people would be responsible for. It would be nearly impossible to hire applicants for a position without first understanding what the position entails. Not only that, but Knight Corporation will find the quality of applicants will improve once there is more detail to the job descriptions. The best employees are not going to waste their time trying to determine what a company is looking for when others spell it out in clear detail. There will be minimal cost with this proposal, aside from hiring an outside human resources director. I am still working on determining what visual aids to include with this portion of the White Paper. Some things would have more impact visually and the next step will be creating those aids.

Great Stats
Nice work on finding actual stats for the city of New Albany. We should use this information and maybe gather some more so that we can add a Information of the City sheet to our whitepaper. With many of the employees with Knight Co. coming close to retirement, this company should have a large choice when it comes to new hires.
