Michelle's Job Responses

It is obvious that Michelle has plenty of experience in her field. Not only has she taken classes at an well known university, but she has put her knowledge to use through different jobs. Because of these jobs she has gained not only knowlegde, but experience.

The first job she is considering is Plantronics, INC. Plantronics is looking for someone with experience in the field of credit and collections analyzing. Michelle is qualified for the position due to her experience in the field. Plantronics is also looking for someone who is a good communicator and leadership. Because Michelle was a treasurer for her sorority she has had experience working with people as well. Michelle is originally from Indianapolis, and Plantronics is located in Santa Cruz. This could be a good experience for her because she is willing to relocate and she will be completely focused on her work.

The second job she is considering Irwin Union Bank, and they are looking for a credit analyst. They are looking for someone with excellent experience and skills. Michelle has had jobs through out school, yet this may not prepare her for the qualifications this job requires. She does not have all the qualifications they are asking, yet she does have eperience. The job is located in Indianapolis, so she will not be moving away from home.

Out of the two jobs for which she is considering, I believe that Michelle fits best at Plantronics. Altough the job is located in California, I feel that it will be a good experience for her. She can use her past experience in the field to further her career. Michelle can put her education in finance and her experience with people to succeed.

response

I don't agree with your decision of thinking Plantronics as her best option. Michelle didn't even met their basic requirements of "2 years of credit and collection experience," and "experience with Oracle." Moving far alway from home for your first job will be tough without your family and friends supporting you, even if she think it would be cool to move alway for a change. I just personally think that Irwin Union Bank will be the ideal choice since she already have all the background experiences and she got used to the bank's working environment already.

Sometimes I forget that we

Sometimes I forget that we go to a premier University in most people's eyes. I think this is an advantage to anyone from Purdue that applies to jobs out of state. At first before I read your response I thought she should stay here. But now after looking from your point of view I see how it could be a great opportunity to change her life. However, it could be pretty tough to move out there if you don't know anyone. Overall, I think coming from a highly accredited college could make up for the lack of experience or knowledge she may need for that job.

Peer Response

This is a very well structured response. I do like how you stressed that she was educated at Purdue and how this is to her advantage. I however disagree with you in which position she should take. I believe that she is very qualified for the Irwin Union Bank position and not as much for the Plantronics position. Plantronics is asking for 2 years experience in retail collections and credit with a publicly traded company, this is something she has not done. I just feel that a company of this magnitude would not slack on a requirement of this nature. It seems that the stock owners would not approve of someone with such an important position having such minimal direct exposure to the field. This is just a difference in opinion illustrating the conflicting views between different people and the real choice would be up to Michelle, and Michelle alone.

Plantronics is good for her!

You had a very similar respons that I had. I totally agree that she should apply to Plantronics and try living out of state than staying in Indianapolis for another few years. When I went to California, I thought I was in country. That's how different it is from Indiana or New Jersey, where I came from. The fact that she is more interested in living out of state should be a huge fact regardless of the company's job, reputation, etc. because she has to like the job. Who knows? She might be working there for few decades if she likes it.
